Spirit Contest — Show that you’ve got Knight pride by registering to participate in the Spirit Contest. The painter of the first-, second-, and third-place windows will receive cash prizes of $200, $100, and $50, respectively. Painting supplies will be provided. Stop at the t-shirt sales booth or in the Alumni Office to pick up supplies. Students MUST register to qualify for prizes. Photos submitted without prior registration will NOT be eligible for prizes. Register for the Knight Run/Walk — You can be part of this annual 5K tradition Saturday, Oct. 15, at 8 a.m. The cost is $12, and if you register by Tuesday, Sept. 27, you will receive a 2016 Knight Run/Walk t-shirt! Please note: Shirts will ONLY be available for registrations submitted on or before Sept. 27. Register in advance by clicking here. This year’s run/walk event is sponsored by State Bank.

Audition for Kastle Kapers
 — The Homecoming Committee will hold auditions for the 2016 Kastle Kapers on Sept. 27 and 28, 7-10 p.m., in Neumann Auditorium. Sign up in The Hub. Contact courtney.belk@wartburg.edu or homecoming@wartburg.edu with any questions. 

Presidential debate viewing party — The Wartburg College Democrats will host a presidential debate viewing party Monday, Sept. 26, at 8 p.m. in The Hub in Saemann Student Center. Pizza will be provided, and it will be a great way to relax. Come and stop by, even if only for a few minutes!

Off-campus Outfly alert — If you live off campus and would like to receive an alert on the morning of Outfly, please sign up outside of The Hub in Saemann Student Center or fill out this online form. Calls will be made between 5:45 and 6 a.m. on Outfly morning.

Diploma application reminder — The deadline for returning diploma applications to the Registrar’s Office, Luther Hall 216, is Friday, Sept. 30. Students with a third-year classification must complete a diploma application to initiate the graduation process. Advising worksheets will be reviewed in October and November for those students submitting diploma applications by Sept. 30. Advisers, together with the Registrar’s Office, exercise all possible care in checking students’ records for graduation. However, it is the sole responsibility of the student to fulfill all requirements for a degree. Complete the diploma application even if you do not expect to graduate until the 2018-19 academic year. Diplomas will not be issued without a diploma application. The diploma application should not be used to declare your major. Students should declare their major(s) and/or minor(s) by the end of the first term of their second year. The Declaration of Major/Minor form is available in the Registrar’s Office and requires the appropriate adviser and department chair signature(s). 

Water to Thrive general meeting — Water to Thrive is a nonprofit organization devoted to raising funds for fresh water wells in Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda. Funds are raised through events on campus and through involvement with the community. WTT also attends culture fests and involvement fairs in the Cedar Valley to raise awareness about the water crisis in rural African countries and about the organization in general. Join us at our first meeting 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, in WBC 215. If you are unable to attend the meeting and want to learn more, please e-mail wtt@wartburg.edu.

Wartburg College Career Expo — You are invited to attend the Wartburg College Career Expo in The W’s Hall of Champions on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year, more than 50 employers, graduate and professional schools, and volunteer organizations will be attending the event. For more information, click here. Learn about various employment options and have a chance to speak with employers and recruiters from graduate and professional schools. Remember to dress professionally and bring a copy of your resume. If you don’t have a resume, stop by the Pathways Center or call 319-352-8615 for help in creating one.

“Listening for God in a Noisy World” workshop and lunch – In this workshop, we’ll sort through some of the predominant voices competing for our attention – voices that stake a claim on who we should be, what we should value, and what makes us happy. And we’ll think about the voice of God, which lays claim on our lives in the midst of that cacophony, and how following that call might help us find a sense of purpose, meaning, and even joy. Join representatives from the seven ELCA seminaries 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, for this workshop luncheon in the Chapel Commons (basement). Please RSVP to kathy.liddle@wartburg.edu. Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar — The next Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar will be Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 11:30 a.m. in Science Center 134. Mathematics major Samuel Van Fleet ’17 will speak about his research at the University of St. Thomas last summer. Cookies and beverages will be served.

Candlelight Dinner — The sign-up for the Candlelight Dinner hosted by the Sociology/Criminology Club will be Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 28 and 29, from 5:15 to 7 p.m. in Mensa. The Sociology/Criminology Club will discuss its organization while students, faculty, and staff mingle over dinner Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the Heritage Ballroom in Saemann Student Center. All are welcome! The cost for students with a board plan is $2. This may be paid with points or cash at the time of sign up. Off-board students also may attend, and their cost will be $10 at the time of sign up. Special dietary considerations will be taken into account.

Phil and Lit – The next meeting of the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will be Friday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m. in McCoy West in the Saemann Student Center. Dr. Terrence Lindell, professor of history, will present “At Sea in Iowa: Working with the Letters of a Civil War Sailor.”

Third flood of library reserved for interview day — The third floor of Vogel Library is reserved for the Iowa College Recruiting Network’s accounting interview day, sponsored by Pathways Center, on Friday, Sept. 30, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Counseling Services, the Pathways Center, and WRSL will remain open.

Meet local Democratic candidates — The Wartburg College Democrats will host a meet and greet with local candidates in Whitehouse Business Center 214 (Buckmaster) on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. This is a great way to meet your local candidates and hear their opinions on the issues. 

Doug Main farewell reception — You are invited to wish Doug Main well as he leaves Wartburg College (his last day is Oct. 1) and moves to Florida. He has served the college well as a security officer and deputy director of Campus Security & Safety since August 2009. A reception in his honor will be Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Hagemann Castle Room in Saemann Student Center.

McCoy Living and Learning Center dedication – Save the date for the dedication ceremony for the McCoy Living and Learning Center and Clinton Hall: Friday, Oct. 14, at 3:30 p.m. Join the celebration on Clinton Field and mark this milestone for Wartburg!

Campus security and fire safety report — The 2016-17 annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report has been released online. This required report contains crime statistics from 2013-15 and addresses the college’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, such as responding to emergency situations and reporting sexual misconduct. Additionally, the report contains information related to fire safety. You can request a paper copy in the Campus Security Office in Saemann Student Center.

Get involved with Homecoming & Family Weekend — 
Less than one month until you "Shine Your Armor" Oct. 13-16! Students and groups can take part in the following events during Homecoming & Family Weekend (make note of deadlines). Click here for registration and details for all three.

  • Homecoming Parade — Register for the parade to show your pride and promote your organization! Cash prizes for first- ($500), second- ($300), and third-place ($150) entries will be given to Wartburg student organizations. Deadline to register is Oct. 6.
  • Renaissance Faire — Show your Wartburg spirit by setting up a booth at the Renaissance Faire on Saturday, Oct. 15! A $25 fee will be applied to your organization's campus account; we will supply your group with one or two tables. Deadline to register is Oct. 6.

Interested in traveling to Britain in May? Want to see medieval castles up close and experience the majesty of a Gothic cathedral? Visit the windswept island and monastery that ushered Christianity into Britain and so much more during May Term. There will be an informational meeting for HI 212, Castles and Cathedrals, at 9:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, in Luther Hall 324. Whether you’re already committed or just curious, come to find out about class requirements, course fees, expected itinerary, and more. Female volunteers needed — A new empowerment program starting this fall for elementary-age girls needs your help. IMpower’s mission statement is “a movement empowering girls as they navigate adolescence.” We are asking volunteers to commit to an hour a week for six weeks, starting the week of Oct. 10. There will be a workshop Saturday, Oct. 1, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., in the St. Elizabeth Room in Saemann Student Center to train volunteers. If interested, contact Professor Jenna Haglund.

Consumer information — The U.S. Department of Education requires institutions receiving federal funding to provide notice regarding the availability of consumer information and how to register to vote. Consumer information is available here. This information contains statistics, policies, and programs at Wartburg College, including, but not limited to, the Annual Security Report and the Annual Fire Safety Report. Please contact the Financial Aid Office with questions or to request a paper copy. You also should take a moment to register to vote here.

Donate your gently used t-shirts — The Sustainability Department is collecting donations of clean t-shirts (please no tears or stains), adult and youth sizes, to be used for a Renaissance Faire activity. Donations can be dropped off in the Sustainability Office in the basement of Old Main or at the Physical Plant before Monday, Oct. 10.

Math Lab and SI courses — Math Lab is open Sunday through Thursday, 7-10 p.m., in Vogel Library Classroom 1. The Math Lab provides a comfortable place for students to receive assistance in specific courses taught through the Wartburg Math, Computer Science, and Physics departments. For details and to see a list of supported courses, click here. KnightVision sets live stream schedule — A newly created KnightVision executive committee, representing athletics, worship, music, institutional events, and the Department of Journalism & Communication, has set the live streaming schedule for the 2016-17 academic year. Click here to view the schedule online.
