Open forums set with Spiritual Life candidates

Two candidates for the position of dean of spiritual life will be on campus this week. The Rev. Kyle Barton will hold an open forum from 4-5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in McCoy West. The Rev. Miles Hopgood will hold an open forum from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, in McCoy East.

Ticketholders for ETK’s Large Event, Tai Verdes with opening act Running Lights, can win a chance to meet Verdes. After purchasing your ticket, follow @etk_wartburg on Instagram and tag two friends in a comment on the most recent post to be entered in the drawing. In addition, a scavenger hunt for free tickets will be held every day this week, and the first 200 people to purchase tickets will be put in a drawing to win ETK swag.

FAFSA can now be filed for 2023-24
|
The 2023-24 FAFSA is now available. Every student who will receive financial aid for the 2023-24 school year should submit one. The Financial Aid Office highly recommends using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to ensure correct 2021 tax information is used. Much of the information will carry over from your 2022-23 FAFSA, but Wartburg’s code is #001896 if you need to enter it again.

Noah Campus Health Clinic is an outpatient clinic on Wartburg's campus that can meet most health needs of students, faculty, staff, and immediate family members. Medical conditions that go beyond the scope of the clinic are referred to off-campus providers. Noah Campus Health Clinic is in Suite 1392 on the lower level of The W. The fall 2022 Career & Internship Showcase will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in The W’s Hall of Champions. More than 80 employers, graduate schools, and service organizations will attend. All students are encouraged to polish up their resumes, dress for success, and engage with these professionals.
Students who attend the Career & Internship Showcase, receive a showcase passport, and talk with at least five employers will be entered into drawings. The Hearthside Project offers faculty and students the unique opportunity to connect outside the formality of the classroom by reading and discussing a book together. Materials science researcher to speak at MCSP seminar

The first Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar of the year will begin at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Science Center 134. Dr. Sarah Matt '12, a research scientist in the Materials Science Division at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, will speak virtually about her post-Wartburg career and her current research in a talk titled "From Wartburg Chemistry to a Career in Materials Science Research." All are invited to hear her presentation.

Wartburg College's literary magazine, The Castle, is now accepting submissions for its Winter 2023 edition. The deadline for submission is April 14, 2023. The Castle will accept graphic works, photography, and artworks of any medium as long as they are submitted electronically. |

Dance Marathon to mark National Child Health Day

National Child Health Day is the first Monday of October. It is a day to show support to children struggling with illness and to their families. If you would like to donate in honor of National Child Health Day, Wartburg College Dance Marathon will raise money all day for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.

Nominate high school teachers for award
|

Graduating students: Did you have a high school teacher who inspired you and contributed to your accomplishment of earning a baccalaureate degree from Wartburg College? If so, please nominate your teacher for the Outstanding High School Teacher of the Year Award. Anyone is eligible, regardless of residence. Winning teachers will receive $500. In addition, a $500 scholarship will be made available to a rising senior from your high school. Nominations must be received by Nov. 1.

Serve the United Way as student board representative
|
Wartburg College and the Waverly-Shell Rock Area United Way are seeking a student representative to serve on the board of directors, with service beginning in winter 2023 and concluding in December 2024. This is great opportunity to make a difference in the local community and develop skills that will prove valuable in other settings.
Interested students should plan to be in the Waverly community during their entire time of board service and will be responsible for attending monthly meetings, a day of nonprofit agency funding hearings, and subcommittee meetings. Weekday Chapel services are from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Wartburg Chapel. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Mondays feature faculty and staff faith stories and blessings, Wednesdays include Holy Communion to which all are welcome, and Fridays have Senior Chapels.

A new event this year will give students the opportunity to bleach dye (reverse tie-dye) T-shirts donated by student organizations and departments. If your organization or department does not have any T-shirts to donate, the Homecoming Committee is open to other ideas or activities your organization could host at this event.
