NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Presidential forum series — The second of three presidential forums, designed to be an exchange of information across campus, continues Wednesday, Oct. 21, 4-5 p.m., in Hagemann Castle Room of Saemann Student Center. The forum series concludes Tuesday, Dec. 8, 11:30 a.m. The one-hour forums afford opportunities to explore timely topics and provide an occasion for employees to continue bringing forth expense-saving and revenue-enhancing ideas.


The Juice changes delivery — As of today, Oct. 19, The Juice will be sent only on Mondays. Please keep this change in mind when submitting announcements. The deadline for submissions through juice@wartburg.edu is 4 p.m. Thursday. As always, news items will be posted to the InfoCenter on a continual basis.

Professional development event — The Human Resources & Payroll Office and Pathways Center present the first in this year's series of professional development opportunities Tuesday, Oct. 27, 3-4:30 p.m., in Knights Ballroom of Saemann Student Center. Dr. Celina Peerman, an organizational psychologist with Peerman Group, will present Re-Energizing Your Passion in Times of Change. Click here to RSVP by Thursday, Oct. 22.

Kleinfeld Lecture set for Oct. 22 — Udo Michallik will present The Unifications of Germany and Europe – 25 Years After. Beginning of a New World Order? for the annual Kleinfeld Lecture in German History, Culture, and Politics Thursday, Oct. 22, 7:30 p.m., in Saemann Student Center’s McCaskey Lyceum. He will address the transformation of Europe since 1989 and its significance to the U.S. Michallik is the secretary general of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the German States. At the event, the Gerald R. Kleinfeld Chair in German History will be bestowed upon Dr. Daniel Walther, professor of history. The position is being elevated to an endowed chair through an additional $500,000 commitment by Gerald Kleinfeld as part of the Transforming Tomorrow campaign. Click here for more information.

Phil and Lit — Author Robert Knox will present Recreational Writing: Mystery-Trash Fiction for the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society Friday, Oct. 23, 4 p.m., in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. Vocation reading groups — Faculty and staff can participate in one of two vocation reading groups this fall: The Garden at Night: Burnout and Breakdown in the Teaching Life by Mary Rose O’Reilly or The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are by Brene Brown. To participate, register here by Monday, Oct. 26. Books will be provided to participants. Each group will meet two to three times throughout the term. The reading groups are funded through a $10,000 NetVUE grant from the Council of Independent Colleges and the Lilly Endowment.

Fundraiser with pizza — Dance Marathon is hosting an all-day fundraiser at Pizza Hut Thursday, Oct. 22. A voucher, which can be found on the organization's Facebook page, must be printed and presented when paying.

Keep on Learning — The musical legacy of the Wartburg Castle will be the highlight of a special Keep on Learning community education class Thursday, Oct. 29. Mike Sherer will examine the significance of the castle’s Great Hall in music, art, and poetry while discussing Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s art collection, Meistersinger competitions at the castle, and Martin Luther’s translation of the Bible. The first class of each session is free; a $30 fee due at the second class covers the rest of the session. For more information, click here.

ETK Large Event rescheduled — Andy Grammer and Aaron Carter will perform at Wartburg Saturday, Jan. 9. Entertainment ToKnight's rescheduled 2015 Large Event (#LargeEvent15) will begin at 8 p.m. in Neumann Auditorium. Tickets purchased for the postponed date will be accepted. Faculty and staff tickets can be purchased for $10 with a Wartburg ID, and public tickets can be purchased for $20, while quantities remain, at the Information Desk in Saemann Student Center. Public tickets also are available online. Refunds are available through Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Information Desk. The paper ticket must be provided. Please direct questions regarding ticketing to ticket.office@wartburg.edu. Questions regarding the event can be directed to Entertainment ToKnight at etk@wartburg.edu.

Students sought for WWII course — The Department of History seeks students to fill out enrollment of the May Term course HI 260, History of World War II, which was added after returning students registered for classes last year. Faculty advisers of students looking for a May Term course are encouraged to share this option. Act quickly or the course may be dropped. Winter Term course requests — Faculty, it’s time to submit course requests for the 2016 Winter Term. Refer to the email link to The Wartburg Store website online collection tool to complete the submission.
