Appointments for 2017-18 academic year

The office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs is pleased to announce the following appointments for the 2017-18 academic year:

  • Dr. Joyce Boss has been appointed the Franklin and Irene Saemann Chair in World Communities. As part of this role, she will serve as the director for global and multicultural studies.
  • Dr. David McCullough has been appointed the Burk-Will Chair in Interdisciplinary and Environmental Studies. This position will support the environmental studies program and other interdisciplinary programs.
  • Dr. Daniel Walther has been appointed an assistant vice president for academic affairs.
 
NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
Conference opportunity
The Wendt Character Initiative at the University of Dubuque will host an interdisciplinary conference to explore the interplay between home and the development of character as it relates to justice, integrity, and compassion March 1-2, 2018. The call for proposals now is open. Click here to submit a proposal and to see more information.
ITS office change
Office coordinator Joni McDonough has moved to CTC 100. All ITS administrative needs can be addressed to her there on weekday afternoons.

The Faculty/Staff Juice will publish every other week during the summer, with the next edition on July 3. The Juice will resume weekly emails on Sept. 5.

Homecoming & Family Weekend scheduling
Is your department or group hosting a reunion, reception, or open house during Homecoming & Family Weekend 2017? The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations is working on the schedule for Oct. 12-15 and needs to hear from you about those plans to ensure they are included on the master schedule. Please email alumni@wartburg.edu by Tuesday, June 20, with details.
More properties for rent
The college has additional properties available for rent and has added a link at Wartburg Properties for Rent so the general public can also see the properties that are available. Some of our properties allow pets (with additional charges and responsibilities for the tenant), which is noted on appropriate listings. All these properties are well-maintained and very close to campus. If you or anyone you know is interested in renting one of these properties, please contact Laura Davis, 352-8318, to arrange a walk-through. The rental application can be found on the website as well.
Reports now available 
The Winter/May 2016-17 Grade Point Average and 1993-2017 Student Credit Unit (SCU) reports are now available on InfoCenter. Please direct questions to Edie Waldstein.

Congratulations to Chris Knudson ’01, director of Marketing & Communication, on his marriage to Corey Hoefer in Waverly on June 17.
 
PROFESSIONAL NOTES
 
Cliff Brockman, associate professor of journalism and communication, presented Creativity Meets Collaboration: Lessons from an Immersive Multimedia Collaboration at the annual Broadcast Education Association conference in Las Vegas on April 22.

Dr. Kyle Schenkewitz, visiting professor of religion, presented his paper, Perspectives from Gaza on Bodily Asceticism and Illness, at the North American Patristics Conference in Chicago on May 27. He served as organizer and chair of the panel Palestinian Monasticism: Development, Influences, and Reception and participated in a workshop on Teaching Medicine and Religion in Late Antiquity.

Brian Beckstrom, campus pastor, has a new article on the Living Lutheran blog about young adults, the fear of being judged, and God's words of hope that the church needs to speaking to them.
 
WARTBURG IN THE NEWS
 
Amir Matoufiazar ’18, of Iran, read from the Quran for a guest invocation at the Waverly City Council meeting, as reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

Taylor Gilson ’17 pitched seven shutout innings against St. Louis Washington University just 11 days after surgery for a broken collarbone, as reported by the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

The women's track and field team earned three top 10 finishes as the NCAA Division III outdoor championships, as reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

Courtney Sowle ’17 earned All-America honors with a seventh-place finish in the women's heptathlon in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

Sarah Lacina ’06 won CBS's Survivor: Game Changers, as reported by KCCI.
