| New director of Campus Security and Safety, Student Life open house |
The Office of Student Life is pleased to announce that Jay Tommasin has joined Wartburg as the new Director of Campus Security and Safety. In addition, the Residential Life staff has welcomed two new Area Coordinators: Julleon Garrison, AC for Clinton and Founders and Academic Support Coordinator, and Derek Deeney, AC for the Complex and the Residence and Service Learning Coordinator.
There will be an open house in the Student Life Office on Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., for members of the faculty and staff to meet and welcome our newest colleagues. There will be refreshments as well as the opportunity to learn more about the work of the Student Life team. |

| The Community Response Team was assembled at the beginning of the last academic year to ensure meaningful and transparent responses to incidents that impact the campus community. In an effort to be more transparent, this website will be updated as needed to reflect how these incidents are being handled by the college. To ensure that the college is doing all it can to make Wartburg a safe and inclusive community for all, the Community Response Team encourages all students, faculty, and staff to report incidents of bias impacting a Warburg community member to Campus Security or any member of the Community Response Team. |

| MCSP Seminar |
| The Math, Computer Science & Physics (MCSP) Department Seminar Series features presentations by students, faculty, alums, and other speakers on subjects related to the various disciplines in the MCSP Department. The first seminar of the year will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 11:30 a.m. in Room 134 of the Science Center. Dr. Brian Birgen, professor of mathematics, will discuss his upcoming May Term course, including the logistics of the travel course as well as cover some of the main themes. All are invited. | Phil & Lit Society |
| The next speaker for the Phil and Lit Society is Peter Gruttner, who is visiting from the Center for Teacher Education at Martin Luther University in Halle, Germany. The title of his presentation is “Instructional Trends at Martin Luther University, Halle, Germany.” Gruttner will speak about some of the newer trends and methods of teaching in use at MLU. Then he will have a discussion about trends and methods in classrooms here at Wartburg. He will be speaking at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, in McCoy West of the Saemann Student Center. Refreshments will be provided. |

| Printing cost update |
| As previously announced for the 2018-19 fiscal year, as of Sept. 1 printing prices in the Digital Print Center and on-campus copiers have increased between 1 and 5 cents per copy. A table of the changes can be found here on the Business Office website. The click charges (copier charge per side of the paper) are as follows: 7 cents per side BW (hasn’t changed), 29 cents per side color. The college is adjusting the pricing due to rising costs with college suppliers. Please note the Print Center is the more economical option, and the pricing change reflects this important distinction. If you have questions regarding the printing increase, contact Lori Poehler. |

| Award-winning translator to speak at MBK Symposium |
| Aron Aji, director of MFA in Literary Translation at the University of Iowa, will be the featured speaker Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the annual Michaelson, Briner & Kildahl Literary Symposium at Wartburg College. Aji will present on “Found in Translation: Listening to the World’s Voices” at 11:30 a.m. in McCaskey Lyceum in the Saemann Student Center. The symposium is presented by the Harry and Polly Slife Professorship in Humanities and co-sponsored by Vogel Library, the Wartburg Scholars Program and the Franklin I. and Irene Saemann Chair in World Communities. The event is free and open to the public. |

| All-American Rejects tickets |
| Tickets are now available for the public for the All-American Rejects concert at Wartburg on Sunday, Oct. 7. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Levick Arena featuring singer Keelan Donovan as the opening act. Doors open at 7 p.m. Click here to order tickets for $20 each. All seats are general admission. |

| All non-emergency maintenance work order requests should be submitted electronically through the InfoCenter. Click the Maintenance link on the front page of the InfoCenter. Click the Submit Service Request link on the left side of the page. Provide the location of the service requested using a dropdown menu. Leave all pertinent information regarding the issue in the dialog box provided. A photo also may be uploaded if needed. Once the request has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation email to your wartburg.edu address. Another email will be sent when the service has been completed. All emergency situations (e.g. water leaking or a fire or safety hazard) should be reported immediately to Maintenance & Operations or Security. If you experience difficulties requesting service, please contact the Physical Plant at 319-352-8318. |

Please note these deadlines from The Wartburg Store:
- Last day to return textbooks for a refund (without a drop slip): Friday, Aug. 31
- Last day to return textbooks for a refund (with a drop slip from the Registrar’s Office): Friday, Sept. 7
- Last day to rent textbooks: Friday, Sept. 7
- Last day to purchase textbooks: Wednesday, Sept. 12
The last day to purchase textbooks (Sept. 12) is especially key as all textbooks will be returned. Students are encouraged to purchase course materials for the first and second Seven Weeks prior to Sept. 12. Tuition account charging will be open through Sept. 28 to charge supplies.

Weekday Chapel services are from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Wartburg Chapel; Sunday services begin at 10:30 a.m. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester. Upcoming speakers:

| Sanctuary is a casual service that takes place on Wednesday nights in the Chapel Commons. It provides students with the opportunity to relax and center themselves around God’s word in the midst of their busy week. All are welcome at 9 p.m. in Chapel Commons (basement), and come early at 8:45 for snacks. |

| If you sing or play an instrument and would like to be part of a worship band this semester, come to Sanctuary band placements for the bands that lead the music for the service.
