Students, faculty and staff are invited to serve, worship and enjoy fellowship during "God’s Work, Our Hands" Sunday on Sept. 9 as Wartburg teams up with Waverly's Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School. Service projects will be completed in the Waverly community from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., worship will be at 11 a.m. in the Wartburg Chapel, and a sack lunch will be served at noon on campus. Julie Drewes, visual media manager, will have an open house for anyone wanting new or updated headshots on Thursday, Sept. 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in FAC 52 (photo studio). Directions to FAC 52:
- Enter the main lobby area of the Bachman Fine Arts Center by the art gallery (windows side, facing the chapel).
- On the right, take the staircase down to the basement.
- Follow the long hallway about half-way and turn left (clock on the wall for reference).
- The studio is the first door on the right.

Service to install Pastor Beckstrom |
All are invited to join the campus community in honoring the Rev. Dr. Brian Beckstrom during Chapel time on Wednesday, Sept. 5. The college will install Pastor Brian as the new Dean of Spiritual Life and the Herbert and Cora Moehlmann Chaplaincy Chair during a service beginning at 10:15 a.m. in Wartburg Chapel. As Dean of Spiritual Life, Pastor Brian will lead the College’s ministry and promote faith exploration and development in and out of the classroom. He will also continue to teach courses in Wartburg’s Leadership program and Religion Department. Following the service, all are invited for light refreshments in the Chapel Commons. |

Wartburg surplus items for faculty and staff |
Wartburg College will sell its surplus assets located in Windy Acres and Players Theater this month. On Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., these locations will be open to faculty and staff, who may tag items needed for their work spaces. This is only to tag items to use for Wartburg business. Due to staff availability this is the only time departments can come tag items. Items not tagged will be priced and sold through various public sale options. Employees interested in items for personal use should follow the forthcoming directions for the public sale. Items available in storage include desks, file cabinets, chairs, shelves and garbage cans. Please email Todd Parsons or call x8367 for details. If your department has items to move to storage, please call Maintenance before Sept. 7. |

Volunteer for Scholarship Day Luncheons |
The Admissions Office is looking for faculty and staff members to host tables of prospective students and their families during our Scholarship Day luncheons. There are four dates this year: Sunday, Oct. 7; Sunday, Nov. 11; Sunday, Jan. 20; and Sunday, Feb. 17. Phil and Lit Society meets Friday |
Anne Duncan, environmental and sustainability coordinater at Wartburg, will be the speaker on Friday, Sept. 7, at 4 p.m. She will be talking and answering questions about trends in our climate and the impact it has on our weather, agriculture, and way of life. New art exhibit open |
"Mandalas," an exhibition of paintings by artist Bart Vargas, is open in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery on the first floor of Bachman Fine Arts Center through Oct. 21. Inspired by his travels to China, Vargas explores the relationship between the circle and the square through color theory and pattern. A mandala is a traditional spiritual symbol representing the universe. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, or by appointment. |

Be part of Hearthside reading program |
This year will mark the eighth year that students and faculty/staff have enjoyed the Hearthside experience. An initiative through the Slife Professorship in the Humanities, the program provides faculty/staff the opportunity to read a book of their choice with up to three students in an informal environment. Faculty and staff from all disciplines are invited to participate in this program. Hearthside is co-sponsored by the Humanities Think Tank at Wartburg College and the Slife Professorship in the Humanities.
