Grant funding for archives |
Wartburg College is the only Iowa institution to be awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities grant in the organization’s most recent round of funding. The nearly $6,000 Preservation Assistance grant will allow the college to purchase equipment and supplies to stabilize a portion of the Wartburg College Archives and Archives of Iowa Broadcasting collection of approximately 28,000 films, videos, and audio resources. The grant also will fund the purchase of better environmental monitoring equipment for the storage vault and online training to use the equipment. |

Help make prayer shawls for Lily Reflection Room |
Calling all knitting or crocheting lovers… plans are being made to give the Lily Reflection Room a makeover for the new year! If you have a passion for knitting or crocheting, there is a need for prayer shawls to be available in this room. If you have time over break or throughout the winter months to create one (or more), please bring them to Pam Moss in the Chapel office or Kathy Traetow in WBC 118. |
|
Title IX course |
All full-time and part-time faculty and staff members are required to complete a Title IX course. An email has been sent to all employees with login instructions. The course is active and can be completed anytime between now and Jan. 31. Please note Google Chrome is the best browser to use to complete the training. Direct questions to Karen Thalacker, Jamie Hollaway or Erica Sadler. |
|
Inclement weather policy |
As winter approaches, the chance for severe winter weather grows more likely. For such situations, the college has a weather-related closure policy posted here. It also is linked from the front page of the Student Handbook page and the Academic Affairs website. |

Retirement open house for Jim Anderson |
After more than 36 years at Wartburg, groundskeeper Jim Anderson is retiring. An open house will be held in his honor Tuesday, Dec. 19, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., in the Chapel Commons. All are welcome to stop by and wish him well on his retirement. |
|
Presidential Forum notes |
Notes from the Dec. 5 Presidential Forum are posted on the InfoCenter under "President’s Reports." A sample letter written by President Colson to legislators re: the tax reform bill is also posted for your information. |
|
InfoCenter navigation changes |
The dropdown menus on the InfoCenter will be eliminated to encourage viewers to click on the main menu tabs. This allows the viewer to see all the options available. Research suggested that many people were not aware of the additional options beyond the dropdown options. You will now find all links on the main pages for each menu tab page. Also, some sections of the InfoCenter will be receiving a graphic facelift to make them more user-friendly and attractive. All navigation changes should be complete before classes resume in January. Other updates will be minor cosmetic changes made during Winter Term. If you have questions about where to find information on the InfoCenter, email chris.knudson@wartburg.edu. |
|
HR Information on InfoCenter |
Employee information that used to be in the dropdown menu on the InfoCenter is now located in the lower left corner of the HR page. To visit the HR page, simply click on the Employment link in the navigation bar at http://info.wartburg.edu. Some options will require your login. |
|
Give a 2018 Chapel message |
There is still some availability for Seniors, Faculty and Staff to provide the chapel message in the Spring of 2018. Please e-mail SLCM.office@wartburg.edu if you are interested in signing up for this rewarding service to our college community. |

Update from the HLC Monitoring Report Steering Committee |
The college is moving forward to submit its first interim report in February. We are identifying and collecting data to demonstrate progress toward the requirements of the report (e.g., listening tours to clarify the process and expectations, data on the increased quantity and overall quality of assessment reports and improvement plans, and the move of six programs to a three-year reporting cycle), including plans to continue to move forward beyond this year in creating a sustainable culture of improving student learning using outcomes assessment. These plans include the multiyear, multistaged general education retooling plan and an overall plan of tasks still to be completed, such as improving communication between the Assessment Committee and programs as well as improving transparency in the assessment process. All of this has been made possible by the hard work of the Assessment Committee, the General Education Committee, department/program heads, and numerous faculty and staff working on assessment. A big thank you to all of you! |
