Achievements and accomplishments

Dr. Michael Bechtel and Kate Heithoff presented "Hands-on, Minds-on Aquaponics" at the Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children state conference in Des Moines on Oct. 6-7. The presentations provided history, current research, and future outreach taking place in the Midwest. Attendees left the presentation with lessons aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, links to Wartburg College supports, and models to be used with their young learners.

Yoga barre class offered during lunch hour
|
The W offers a yoga barre class, a muscle-endurance-style yoga designed to improve posture and tone the body, every Monday and Wednesday from 12:15-12:45 p.m. This class is a part of the normal group fitness class schedule. Faculty, staff, and students are invited to try it once for free; after that, you can get a group fitness pass for unlimited classes for one month for $10. Self-defense class set for November
|
A two-part self-defense course developed for women will be taught from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 13 and 20 in the Walker Wrestling Room. Participants will learn awareness, assertiveness, safety strategies, and how to use simple, effective techniques on vulnerable areas of the body. Wear comfortable clothes and socks. Registration deadline is Thursday, Nov. 9; participants must be at least 16 years old. Cost is $25.

Barbara Fedeler, professor of art, is featured in the exhibition Wing & Bloom at Olson Larsen Galleries in West Des Moines. The group show features female artists whose work depicts birds or flowers. The work is as varied as the birds in the sky and the flowers that sprout from the earth. Wing & Bloom is open Oct. 13 to Dec. 2.
