Student tax forms mailed
Student W-2s for 2022 were postmarked and mailed to students’ legal/home/permanent addresses on file on Friday, Jan. 27. Student 1098-T forms for 2022 will be postmarked and similarly mailed by Tuesday, Jan. 31. Please allow 7-10 business days for the delivery of these forms. If you don’t receive your forms by Feb. 15, you may request a reprint. Email studentemployment@wartburg.edu for W-2s and businessoffice@wartburg.edu for 1098-Ts.
Scholarship available for experiential learning

Tony Moton, assistant professor of journalism & communication, has provided funds in celebration of his grandmother, Henrietta (Etta) Moton, for the Etta Moton Experiential Learning Fund. A scholarship of at least $500, with possible additional funds depending on availability, will be awarded annually to one or more students who are in pursuit of artistic goals – music, writing, film, and the fine arts – to advance their dreams as an artist and a scholar through an appropriate internship or experiential learning opportunity. Resident assistant and orientation leader positions are a great way to grow leadership skills while engaging in meaningful interactions with peers on campus. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m.

Deadline: 2023-2024 Off-Campus Housing Application

As a four-year residential college, living on campus is required for all students. Those wishing to move off campus for the 2023-24 academic year must obtain approval in accordance with the off-campus policy. Applications are due no later than Feb. 3. TriByKnight Swim Clinic

Due to overwhelming demand, a second triathlon Swim Clinic has been added. Participants will be given specialized instruction for skilled and advanced instruction to improve speed, endurance, and efficiency. Triathlon experience is not required, but spots are still available in the TriByKnight sprint triathlon — a 300-yard swim, 15-mile bike ride, and 3.1-mile run. Cost is $20 for students, $35 for members, and $50 for guests.

The cohort-based program allows busy working professionals to take one course at a time. Those who start in fall 2023 and successfully complete all requirements would graduate in May 2025. Science O' Love

Volunteers are needed for Science O’ Love, an annual event by Wartburg's National Science Teaching Association. NSTA works with younger kids to help get them interested in science. This Valentine's Day event, the biggest NSTA hosts each year, is a fundraiser for next year’s national conference, where the executive team will talk about the group’s research.

Wartburg Community Symphony: ‘Music Takes Flight’

2 p.m., Neumann Auditorium

This concert will feature the world premiere of Jocelyn Hagen's “Messages from Everywhere” in celebration of the symphony's 70th anniversary. The work will be a sensory experience with the symphony, Wartburg Choir, live projected digital imaging, and surround sound. The concert will also include O. Respighi's “The Birds,” featuring winners of the art competition; R. V. Williams’ “The Lark Ascending,” featuring violin soloist Dr. Steve Sang Koh; and Haydn's Symphony No. 83, “The Hen.” Tickets are available now.

Achievements and accomplishments
Dr. Andrew Szarejko, assistant professor of political science, published the article “Foreign or Domestic? The Desecuritisation of Indian Affairs and Normativity in Securitisation Theory” in Millennium: Journal of International Studies.
Dr. Shawn Ellerbroek received Paul Harris Fellow recognition by the Waverly Rotary for his service as the group’s president and his years of work with Water to Thrive.

CONDOLENCES

 
Our sympathies to the family and friends of DD Starr, who died Jan. 24 at age 95. She came to Wartburg in fall 1975 as an assistant professor of social work. She received tenure in 1981 and became an associate professor of social work in 1983 before retiring in 1992. A full obituary and services are pending.

MLK Day service totals announced

Thank you to everyone who served on MLK Day! We had 96 students and employees serve off campus, while 136 students and employees served on campus. A total of 90 reusable bags, 142 pairs of socks, and 244 dog toys were made. Great work, Knights!
