Graduating seniors: Nominate your outstanding high school teacher
|
Graduating seniors: Did you have a high school teacher who inspired you and contributed to your accomplishment of earning a baccalaureate degree from Wartburg College? If so, please nominate your teacher for the Outstanding High School Teacher of the Year Award. Any teacher is eligible, regardless of residence. Winning teachers will receive $500 In addition, a $500 scholarship will be made available to a rising senior from your high school. Nomination forms are available on the commencement website and may be submitted at this link. Nominations must be received by noon March 23.

Join Social Work Club and BSU for Poverty Simulation
|
The Social Work Club and BSU are hosting the Poverty Simulation on Wednesday, March 25, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in The W classrooms. We are in search of participants and individuals to staff the event. The simulation is a great way to understand more about the systems in our environment, and more specifically, the population that consists of those living under the “poverty line.” If you are interested in being a participant or staffer, fill out this link. Sign up for Phi Eta Sigma Candlelight Dinner
|
The sign-up for the Candlelight Dinner hosted by Phi Eta Sigma will be taking place on Wednesday and Thursday, March 11 and 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Mensa. Phi Eta Sigma members will discuss their organization while students, faculty, and staff mingle over dinner on Wednesday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Heritage Ballroom in Saemann Student Center. The cost for students with a board plan is one swipe from their meal plan plus $3. This may be paid with points or cash at the time of sign up. Off-board students may also attend, and their cost will be $15 at the time of sign-up. Special dietary considerations will be taken into account.

Service Trips cupcake fundraiser

Service Trips is fundraising for our Tour Week trips to Colorado, Utah, North Carolina, New Orleans and Atlanta. Please click here to see pictures of Scratch Cupcakes items available to order. The Volunteer Action Center, in partnership with American Red Cross, is hosting a blood drive Tuesday, March 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Chapel Commons. Sign up online to donate. Ethiopian dinner for Water to Thrive
|
Wartburg Water to Thrive will host its second Ethiopian Dinner to help fundraise for our 16th and 17th wells! The event, catered by the Addis Restaurant in Fairfield, will be at the Waverly Area Veterans Post, 1300 4th St. NW, on Tuesday, March 17. The doors will open at 5:30 with dinner beginning at 6:15 and a short presentation to follow. We will be having Ethiopian food (vegetarian option available) with drinks and live music. Cost is $20 for students and $30 for adults/community members. To reserve a ticket, contact a.williamsperez@wartburg.edu. All net proceeds go directly to the next water well and will be matched by an anonymous donor.

The Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will meet Friday, March 13, at 4 p.m. in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. Faculty, staff, students and community members are encouraged to attend and refreshments will be provided. The speaker is Ann Henninger, professor emerita of biology, who will present “Our Three Lines of Defense Against Pathogens.”

NEW: A study examining the relationship of involvement in extra-curricular activity and self-esteem, self-efficacy, and anxiety among college students. This study is being conducted online, and will consist of reading and responding to questions. The principal investigator is lexi.retz@wartburg.edu.

Wednesday closures during Lent
|
During the remaining Wednesdays of Lent (March 11, 18, 25 and April 1), college administrative offices, as well as the Den and the Konditorei, will close during Weekday chapel time, 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. (The W, Zesty Orange, Security Office, Information Desk, and Mensa will remain open). This provides time for faculty, staff, and students to participate in the Lenten chapels or take a break from meetings, lessons, and daily work. Please note that food ordered through GET will be available as soon as the stores open, including board plan meal transfers.

The Wartburg College Dance Team tryouts will take place Sunday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Levick Arena. The day will include tryouts for the following:

Please be reminded Winter Term balances were due Feb. 10, and May Term balances are due by March 10. Student balances must be at $1,000 or below in order to participate in online registration and the housing lottery for the 2020-21 academic year. Online registration and housing lotteries will begin in March.
Monthly payment plan participants, if your payments are current and your remaining scheduled payments will bring your balance to $1,000 or below, you will be cleared to participate!
In addition, May Term travel courses must be paid in full by the March 10 due date to avoid cancellation. If cancelled, participants will be responsible for any non-refundable charges to date, as outlined on their May Term Financial Responsibility Form. Chapel services this week
|
All are welcome at Weekday Chapel services from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Wartburg Chapel. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. The Lord's Supper is celebrated at the end of the service on Mondays and Fridays. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester. Sunday worship is celebrated at least once a month, starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel.

As an expression of Christian hospitality, a new Interfaith Prayer Room has been established in the lower level of the Wartburg Chapel, as we welcome students, faculty and staff of all faith and non-faith traditions. The room is available for all to use for worship and meditation.
|
Sanctuary is a holy space in the midst of your busy life where you can recharge and renew. Expect a relaxed time of Bible study, fellowship, worship band music, prayers, and communion. It takes place on Wednesday evenings at 9 p.m. in the Chapel Commons (basement). Come by at 8:45 for snacks and fellowship. All are welcome!
