The Gathering on Wednesday
|
All are welcome to a contemporary-style worship event called “The Gathering” on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 9 p.m. in McCaskey Lyceum. Worship will be led by students from Spiritual Life & Campus Ministry’s Faith Expression Groups (BASIC, FCA, Sanctuary Planning Team, etc.) featuring worship music by Hope Overflow, student testimony, and a biblical message. Caucus Math talk open to all
|
The upcoming Iowa Democratic Caucus has some of the coolest math problems out there. Come to Caucus Math at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in Science Center 134 to learn how the Iowa Democratic Caucus works and how to calculate all the relevant statistics for yourself. This talk is open to all and will explain what will happen at the Iowa Democratic Caucus, coming up on Monday, Feb. 3. You, too, can multiply by 15%. We’ll have tips and tricks for how to calculate the delegate allocation yourself. Contact Dr. Mariah Birgen with questions.

Asian Student Association Ramen Festival is Saturday
|
Get ready for ASA's Ramen Festival — 2020 edition! The event will take place Saturday, Feb. 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. in McCoy East and West. The main event will be a Spicy Ramen Eating Contest, which will start promptly at 7:30 p.m. White milk will be provided for contestants. The deadline to sign up, which can be done through this link, is Thursday, Jan. 30, and there is a maximum limit of 20 contestants. For those who do not wish to compete, we will also serve a selection of noodles from various Asian countries. This will include non-spicy options and will be free of charge. The Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will meet Friday, Jan. 31, at 4 p.m. in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. Faculty, staff, students and community members are encouraged to attend, and refreshments will be provided. The speaker is Lynn Brant, UNI professor emeritus of geology, who will present “The Religious Significance of Geology.”

Mail Center update: postage increase
|
The U.S. Postal Service has enacted its annual rate increases as of Sunday, Jan. 26.

There is no change to regular first-class letter and postcard stamp rates this year. |
• |
Large envelope base rate remains at $1.00, with additional ounces costing $0.20 per ounce, an increase of 5 cents. |
• |
International first-class mail rates increase 5 cents to $1.20. Any current international stamps may still be used without adding postage. |
• |
Package rates will increase 3-4%; package rates for both first class and priority depend on weight and travel distance to destination. |

'Dark Money' film screening in Lyceum

All are welcome to a free screening of "Dark Money" at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, in McCaskey Lyceum. The Sundance award-winning documentary examines one of the greatest present threats to American democracy: the influence of untraceable corporate money on our elections and elected officials. Learn mindfulness meditation for stress management
|
Dr. Cynthia Bane, professor of psychology, will lead a four-session course on mindfulness meditation. The course, Koru Mindfulness, was developed especially for emerging adults. Sessions will take place Tuesdays from 11:20 a.m.-12:35 p.m. in the Chapel Commons beginning Jan. 28. There is a one-time fee of $3.99 for the Koru app. Register at this link. Chapel services this week
|
All are welcome at Weekday Chapel services from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Wartburg Chapel. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. The Lord's Supper is celebrated at the end of the service on Mondays and Fridays. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester. Sunday worship is celebrated at least once a month, starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel.
