New art exhibit opens today
|
The work of Cedar Falls artist Katie Walberg will be on display in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery beginning today. “Ludicrous Landscapes” will run through Feb. 9. An opening reception will be Friday, Jan. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a gallery talk featuring Walberg at 7 p.m. Walberg is a multidisciplinary artist with interests in drawing, illustration, installation and sculpture. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The gallery, on the first floor of Bachman Fine Arts Center, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, contact Gallery Director Johanna Kramer-Weston.

Water to Thrive pancake breakfast
|
Water to Thrive will hold a free-will donation pancake breakfast Saturday, Jan. 11. The fundraiser will be 8-11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church & School, Waverly, and will also include a raffle. We are close to raising enough money for well number 16 from Wartburg College, and this event will push us in to a semester full of fundraising!

Health center volunteer/shadow program
|
The Center for Community Engagement is now accepting applications for the Winter Term Waverly Health Center Volunteer/Shadowing program. Interested 2Y-4Y students majoring in health-related majors are encouraged to participate in this program. Sign-up sheet is in the Student Life office, and you can pick up your orientation packet from Jo Dorrance or email her. The Winter Term program is limited to 12 students. Students already participating in the program need not re-apply or attend the orientation.

Keep on Learning proposals
|
The Alumni Office is now requesting Keep on Learning proposals for the 2020-21 academic year. The Keep on Learning program offers series of four-week courses to all residents of the Cedar Valley during seven months of the academic year; courses meet once a week on Thursdays for two hours, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Faculty and staff whose course proposals are selected would receive a stipend of $550 for the course they teach. All are invited to develop a course proposal for consideration. Click here for more information. Proposals are due Feb. 21.

The Wartburg College Incubator (formerly known as the Wicked Problems Challenge) will be working directly with Mill Race/Red Cedar using the Co-Starters curriculum. Weekday Chapel services this week
|
All are welcome at Weekday Chapel services from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Wartburg Chapel. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. The Lord's Supper is celebrated at the end of the service on Mondays and Fridays. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester.
