Track & Field rummage sale

The Wartburg Track & Field rummage sale will be Friday, Oct. 11, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Canfield Strength & Conditioning Room in The W. There will be a variety of T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, hats and more for sale. Come and get your WTF clothing, first-come, first-served! CASH or CHECK ONLY. There will also be items sold at the Renaissance Faire on Oct. 12.

Softball Home Run Derby on Saturday
|
The Wartburg softball team will host a Home Run Derby on Saturday, Oct. 12, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., for all students, families, and faculty/staff. The event will be at Lynes Field (the softball field). The cost is $5 for five swings and $20 for 25 swings. First, second and third places will receive prizes from local businesses such as Joe's Knight Hawk, Crawdaddy Outdoor Sports, the Pour House, and many more!

New online course adoption portal training for faculty

Per the e-mail sent to faculty Sept. 25, course materials will now be adopted at a new online portal only (www.Wartburg.Textbookx.com). This portal is scheduled to open Oct. 1, with course adoptions due Nov. 1. You, too, will now access the courses you are teaching through the same online portal. Your sign-in brings up only the courses you are teaching to enter all course material being used. If you are not using any course material that the students need to purchase, please note ‘no text.’ Students will then not need to budget to purchase anything for your course. New Professorship in Biology celebrated Oct. 10

On Thursday, Oct. 10, the college will induct Dr. Stephanie Toering Peters into the newly established Dr. Richard L and Sandra K. Wahl Professorship in Biology. The reception and induction ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. in the Heritage Ballroom of Saemann Student Center are open to the public. It’s back! Wartburg’s literary magazine, The Castle, is back and running. We’re accepting submissions for Fall and Winter semesters, so send your short stories, poetry, and graphic stories (comics), and questions to lindsey.jacobs@wartburg.edu. New this year is a cover art competition! Submit any medium and style to have a chance to be the cover of the book (must have a digital
resolution of at least 200 ppi, physical size of 5x7 in.). The fall deadline for submissions, including cover art, is Oct. 18.

Reminder from the Business Office: Tuition account balances

Students with an account balance greater than $1,000 must contact the Business Office (Luther Hall 212, 319-352-8411) or Financial Aid Office (Luther Hall 212, 319-352-8262) as soon as possible to discuss payment and/or loan options. failing to pay their account balance in full or below $1,000 by Thursday, Nov. 14, may have their Winter/May Term registration cancelled by Enrollment Management.
Those applying student employment wages to their account and believe their balance will be below $1,000 by the November student payroll should inform the Business Office. Those signed up for the Monthly Tuition Payment Plan and current with payments may disregard this notice.

FIRST Tech Challenge Meet needs volunteers
|
The Waverly-Shell Rock Robotics teams are hosting a FIRST Tech Challenge Super Qualifier Meet on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020. Wartburg College has been a sponsor of the teams since their inception in 2017. The teams are looking for volunteers to serve as officials, judges, inspectors, etc. at the meet. No prior experience with FTC is required for most volunteers, and there are volunteer positions in both technical and non-technical areas. Waverly Chamber Business Book Club

The Waverly Chamber of Commerce is offering Business Book Club, which will meet at the Waverly Public Library from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays for five weeks, beginning Oct. 2. Our first book is “Water the Bamboo” by Greg Bell. Bring your lunch and enjoy lively discussion moderated by Denny Haugen, Wartburg College retiree. The book can be purchased through Amazon or Barnes & Noble (the library does not have multiple copies).
