Classes will not meet on RICE Day, Thursday, April 11, as Wartburg College dedicates the day to recognizing student and faculty achievements in and out of the classroom. The whole campus community is encouraged to participate in the day’s events, which include poster sessions, oral and video presentations, readings, panel discussions, displays, art exhibits, documentary premieres and music performances. Journalism & Communication documentaries to premiere Thursday

All are invited to watch the Journalism & Communication capstone documentaries as they're being screened in Neumann Auditorium from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in Neumann Auditorium.

Dr. Thom Boerigter retirement open house
|
All faculty and staff are invited to a retirement open house for Dr. Thom Boerigter on Friday, April 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. on the third floor of Luther Hall, near office 307. Please come celebrate Thom’s years of service to the college and wish him well in this next exciting chapter in his life.

Wartburg’s Senior Exhibition 2019 will showcase works from five students beginning Thursday, April 11. There will be a reception on opening night, from 7 to 9 p.m., in conjunction with RICE Day. Featured artists are Sam Engelken, Hannah Fox, Haley Harms, Emily McCalla, and Anthony Quesada Sanchez. The exhibit, open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through May 26, is free and open to the public. Dining hours during Tour Week

For the Dining Services hours during Tour Week and Easter weekend, please click here. During Tour Week, students will not be able to use their meal plans if staying on campus, and there will be no meal transfers. The first meal in Mensa after break will be Sunday evening, April 28.

Juice publishing schedule for end of the term

Please make note of the Juice email publishing schedule through the end of the academic year:

No Monday Juice the week of April 22 due to Tour Week. |
• |
The final weekly Juice of the term will be May 20. |
• |
The Juice will publish intermittently through the summer as needed, about every other week for the Faculty/Staff edition. |
• |
Weekly Juice emails will begin again Monday, Aug. 26, just before the start of Fall Term. |

Water to Thrive plans for May Term

Water to Thrive will meet Monday, April 8, at 7 p.m. in Science Center 158 to discuss plans for May Term. All are welcome!

The Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will meet Friday, April 12, at 4 p.m. in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. Todd Greer, fourth-year psychology and Spanish major, will present “Catalonia and Spain: Historical Analysis of Linguistic Identity and Conflict.” The second presentation will be given by Bryce Origer, fourth-year environmental science and studies and Spanish major. The title of his talk is “Diego Velázquez and his Mirror.” The final speaker, Hannah Williams, fourth-year biology and Spanish major, will present “Don Quijote: The First Modern Novel.”

Knight Reading for Fall 2019: Glimmer of Hope
|
The Knight Reading (common read) for Fall 2019 is Glimmer of Hope, written by the students from Parkland, Florida, and founders of March for Our Lives. This year, students will read this text during the Fall Term in IS 101. If you would like a copy of the book, please send your request as well as your account number to charge to IS 101 co-coordinator Lindsey Leonard.

As in years past, faculty and staff volunteers are needed to help serve the Study Night Breakfast for students. This semester that falls on Sunday, April 14, from 11 p.m. to midnight. The orange bikes are now available for checkout at Vogel Library. When checking out a bike for the first time this term, you will need to fill out a new bike borrowing agreement form even if you have completed a form in a previous term. Bikes may be checked out for four hours at a time and include a key for the bike lock and a helmet. Enjoy a bike ride this spring!

Updated Essential Education SLOs available online
|
Over the last two years, the General Education Committee has been working to update the SLOs in the different tiers of Essential Education. Last year, new SLOs were approved for IS101, Faith & Reflection 1 & 2, Mathematical Reasoning, and Lifetime Wellness (PE100). This year, new SLOs were approved for IS201, Verbal Reasoning (EN112 & COM112), Writing Across the Curriculum, Cultural Competency Across the Curriculum (formerly Diversity Across the Curriculum), Information Literacy Across the Curriculum, Oral Communication Across the Curriculum, and the Capstone. The new SLOs are available on the college website via the Essential Education Outcomes link and on the InfoCenter under “Faculty Resources” via the Essential Education Student Learning Outcomes Link.

Weekday Chapel services are from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Wartburg Chapel; Sunday services begin at 10:30 a.m. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester.
