Wartburg Players present ‘Rumors’
|
The Wartburg Players will present the play "Rumors" on Thursday, April 4, and Friday, April 5. The shows begin nightly at 7:30 p.m. in McCaskey Lyceum. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids and free for Wartburg students with an ID. “Rumors,” by playwright Neil Simon, follows four couples at an anniversary party for their best friends, Charley and Myra. However, Myra is missing and Charley has been shot. The couples comically try, and fail, to contain the situation.

Fulbright Outreach Scholar presentation
|
Wartburg will host a Fulbright Outreach Scholar from March 31 to April 3. Jairo Viales of Costa Rica specializes in ESL programs. Come hear him speak on the “Role of Language as a Vehicle for Learning Culture and Defining ID” at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, in the Buckmaster Room (WBC 214). Students are strongly encouraged to attend and learn about the Fulbright Scholars program! Contact Gloria Campbell with questions.

The weather has warmed and bikes will be available for checkout at Vogel Library by Wednesday, April 3. When checking out a bike for the first time this term, you will need to fill out a new bike borrowing agreement form even if you have completed a form in a previous term. Bikes may be checked out for four hours at a time and include a key for the bike lock and a helmet. Enjoy a bike ride this spring!

Student Employment Appreciation Week
|
Student Employment Appreciation Week is coming April 8-12 to show appreciation for the invaluable service of both our student employees and their supervisors. The Student Employment Office will host events during the week. For more information, see the flier here. Departments are also encouraged to acquire “smiley face” templates from the Student Employment Office (LH 212) or print their own at this link. Student employees and supervisors should write their name and department on the template and decorate if they desire. “Smiley face” templates should be returned to the Student Employment Office (LH 212) by Friday, April 5, to be included in the “Student Employment Hall of Fame” banner that will be displayed during the week.

The Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will meet Friday, April 5, at 4 p.m. in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center. Sanah Munir, fourth-year psychology and neuroscience major, will present “The Role of Parental Care and Overprotection on the Acute Physiological and Psychological Indicators of Stress.” The second presentation will be given by Freddie Eden, second-year political science major. The title of his talk is “Corruption Among Nations: Investigating Casual Responses.”

Updated Essential Education SLOs available online
|
Over the last two years, the General Education Committee has been working to update the SLOs in the different tiers of Essential Education. Last year, new SLOs were approved for IS101, Faith & Reflection 1 & 2, Mathematical Reasoning, and Lifetime Wellness (PE100). This year, new SLOs were approved for IS201, Verbal Reasoning (EN112 & COM112), Writing Across the Curriculum, Cultural Competency Across the Curriculum (formerly Diversity Across the Curriculum), Information Literacy Across the Curriculum, Oral Communication Across the Curriculum, and the Capstone. The new SLOs are available on the college website via the Essential Education Outcomes link and on the InfoCenter under “Faculty Resources” via the Essential Education Student Learning Outcomes Link.

Wind Ensemble spaghetti dinner

The Wind Ensemble will host a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, April 6, 4-7 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church & School in Waverly to raise funds for its tour of Japan. Survey: Music Therapy at Wartburg

Students in MU 313: Influences of Music on Behavior create advocacy projects for music therapy, and they are gathering information on the knowledge that our faculty and staff have about music therapy at Wartburg. If you would like to participate in this project, please take the anonymous survey at this link. Students hope to gauge the presence of music therapy on campus and better understand how to best serve the community.

Weekday Chapel services are from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Wartburg Chapel; Sunday services begin at 10:30 a.m. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith.
