Mandatory Title IX training

All faculty and staff received an email Thursday from Wartburg College with the subject line “Wartburg College has assigned you training Thursday Jan 10, 2019.” This email, which came from automated-message@everfi.net, contained a link to your mandatory annual Title IX training provided through EverFi. If you deleted this email because you thought it might be spam, please retrieve it from your "Deleted Items" folder.
Please follow the steps below to get started:

Click the orange “Log In” button at the top of the email. You will then be directed to Update Profile. |

Click the new password field and create a password. |
• |
Confirm the password. |
• |
Click Save. |
• |
Click the Start button for your assigned training to begin. |

Keep on Learning proposals
|
The Alumni Office is requesting Keep on Learning proposals for the 2019-20 academic year. The Keep on Learning program offers a series of four-week courses to all residents of the Cedar Valley during seven months of the academic year. All are invited to develop a course proposals for consideration. Click here for more information and to submit proposals. For a hard copy of the proposal form, please contact our office at 319-352-8491. The proposal form will ask for information on the subject matter, a brief summary of the course and an outline of content for each of the four weekly sessions.

MLK Day shortened schedule
|
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, Jan. 21; Wartburg alters the class schedule on this federal holiday to free students and faculty to participate in afternoon service projects. Class periods one through six will meet for 50 minutes with a 10-minute break between each. Weekday Chapel will not be held. Evening classes will meet at their regularly scheduled time.
• Period 1 (regularly starting at 7:45 a.m.) will be 7:45-8:35 a.m.
• Period 2 (9 a.m.) will be 8:45-9:35 a.m.
• Period 3 (10:45 a.m.) will be 9:45-10:35 a.m.
• Period 4 (noon) will be 10:45-11:35 a.m.
• Period 5 (1:15 p.m.) will be 11:45 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.
• Period 6 (2:30 p.m.) will be 12:45-1:35 p.m.

Wartburg CHATS: Senate Diversity Committee

Wartburg students, staff and faculty are invited to join Dean Kittle and the Student Life staff for CHATS on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at noon in the Hagemann Castle Room. This month’s guests will be the Senate Diversity Committee, and as always, all students are welcome to attend and bring any questions, comments or concerns to be addressed. 'Band Together FTK' at Joe's on Friday
|
Wartburg College Dance Marathon will be hosting "Band Together FTK" on Friday, Jan. 18. The Jake Simon Band will perform from 8 to 11 p.m. at Joe's Knighthawk in Waverly. Ticket sales will be on the first floor of the Saemann Student Center near The Wartburg Store on Jan. 14, 15 and 18 from 11:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m. and Jan. 14, 15 and 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets, which are $10, may also be purchased at the door. All proceeds go to the UI Stead Family Children's Hospital.

The Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will hold its first Winter Term meeting Friday, Jan. 18, at 4 p.m. in McCoy West in Saemann Student Center. Michael Luebbers, Wartburg biology alumnus and 19-year employee of the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, will present “Got Dirt — Get Soil.”

This time of year, the chance for severe winter weather grows more likely. For such situations, the college has a weather-related closure policy posted here.

Please remember to use caution when snow and ice are present on sidewalks and steps. Operations & Maintenance will remove snow and add salt or sand to icy spots on sidewalks and steps on campus according to the priority snow removal map. Parking lots will be cleared and salted or sanded as needed by a third party.

IC working group information session
|
Faculty are invited to attend an information session to learn more about joining an Interconnected (IC) working group that will explore the future of the IC tier. The session will briefly outline what has been done thus far by other committees (GEC and General Education Review Ad Hoc Committee) and what still needs to be done. STAS group for teaching and advising

New date for State of the College address
|
Due to changes in President Colson’s travel schedule, the State of the College address will now be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in McCaskey Lyceum. The notes from the Dec. 4 Presidential Forum are posted under President’s Reports on the InfoCenter.

UPS dropoff at Mail Center
|
The Wartburg Mail Center is a UPS dropoff location but NOT a UPS Store. The Mail Center can only accept return packages with bar-code and mailing label. If your Amazon.com return generated a QR code, you may be able to cancel your return, then re-initiate the return choosing “UPS Dropoff” instead of the “no printer” option. Stop by or email the Mail Center for further assistance.

The Business Office is starting to build the college budget for the 2019-20 academic year. As a part of this process, it’s important for all campus members to be able to provide feedback. Department budget managers are responsible for communicating needs to the Business Office, but all employees may communicate with the department managers regarding essential needs for their respective departments.
If you are a department budget manager, please refer to the guide posted on the Business Office website for specific guidance and instruction on the steps to follow.
In addition, emails containing additional information and templates specific to your department will be sent to the department budget managers.
The Business Office is seeking the following information from department budget managers for the 2019-20 fiscal year:

Did you have some amazingly delicious foods over Christmas break? Do you want to be able to have it at school, too? Submit your recipe to Shelly Geweke before Friday, Jan. 31. Recipes for entrees, salads, ethnic dishes, vegan entrees, side dishes and desserts are welcome. Recipes will be taste-tested and may be considered for the 2019-20 Mensa menu. Please include your name and contact information for verification. It’s an easy process, there is no hassle, and it’s a great way to add some yummy foods to our menu!

Davis Projects for Peace details
|
In its twelfth year, the Davis Projects for Peace is an invitation to undergraduates in the Davis United World College Scholars Program to design grassroots projects that they will implement during the summer of 2019. The projects judged to be the most promising and feasible will be funded at $10,000 each. The objective is to encourage and support today's motivated youth to create and try out their own ideas for building peace. Wartburg students wishing to submit a Davis Projects for Peace proposal must submit their application using this link by Jan. 14 at noon. Not sure if you are ready to launch a Davis Projects for Peace idea? Try submitting to the Wartburg College Wicked Problems Incubator or submit an application for a TEDx talk.

Weekday Chapel services are from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Wartburg Chapel; Sunday services begin at 10:30 a.m. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester.

Sanctuary is a casual service that takes place on Wednesday nights in the Chapel Commons. It provides students with the opportunity to relax and center themselves around God’s word in the midst of their busy week. All are welcome at 9 p.m. in Chapel Commons (basement), and come early at 8:45 for snacks.
