| Volunteer with animals |
|
Dr. Bechtel is offering a few volunteer positions in the Science Center to assist with the animals. The volunteers would commit to one to two hours a week, or more depending on the student’s individual interests. Volunteer times are flexible, and any student can help no matter your major. Volunteering can lead to research opportunities and personal avenues of further interest. Possible positions include working with the tortoises, snakes, hedgehogs, and many more species. Email Dr. Bechtel or Todd Greer stating your interest by Thursday, Sept. 20. |

| Students are invited to be part of the Hearthside Project, where faculty and staff choose a book to explore with a small group of students in an informal environment. | Waverly Oktoberfest in Kohlmann Park |
| Waverly Oktoberfest will be in Kohlmann Park (east of campus along First Street NW) Friday, Sept. 21, and Saturday, Sept. 22, celebrating Waverly’s German heritage with live music, food and beverage gardens, a family fun zone, and activities for all ages. Tickets are $7 for one day of $10 for both days (free for ages 12 and under with adult), available at the gate or online. Gates open at 5 p.m. Friday, with fireworks over the Cedar River at 9:15 p.m. and headliner Pop Rocks at 9:30. On Saturday, gates open at 11 a.m. with a corn hole tournament, with Oktoberfest German competitions in the afternoon and headliner Tim Montana & The Shrednecks at 9:30 p.m. Wartburg College is a sponsor of the event. | The Career Expo will be Thursday, Oct. 4, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., in The W’s Hall of Champions. The expo is intended for all majors and all class years as a way to make connections with real businesses, organizations, and graduate/professional schools. | All faculty, staff, and students are invited to observe the presentation of Amandajean Freking Nolte, candidate for information literacy librarian, on Monday, Sept. 17, 10:15 a.m.-11 a.m. in Library Classroom 1. The faculty librarian hired for this position will liaise to the Departments of Education, Journalism & Communication, Business Administration, and possibly Social Sciences and Social Work, among other areas. Freking Nolte has spent the last 10 years as an instructor in UNI’s Department of Communication Studies and has recently earned her MLIS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. |

| Janet Hertel Felberg, Board of Regents |
| A Celebration of Life service for Janet Hertel Felberg will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 24 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. Janet graduated from Wartburg in 1975 and was currently serving on the Board of Regents. She provided expertise on the Business and Finance Committee and Investment Subcommittee of the Board. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Hertel, a Wartburg professor emeritus of biology and longtime coach. Click here for the obituary. |

| Award-winning translator to speak at MBK Symposium |
| Aron Aji, director of MFA in Literary Translation at the University of Iowa, will be the featured speaker Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the annual Michaelson, Briner & Kildahl Literary Symposium at Wartburg College. Aji will present on “Found in Translation: Listening to the World’s Voices” at 11:30 a.m. in McCaskey Lyceum in the Saemann Student Center. The symposium is presented by the Harry and Polly Slife Professorship in Humanities and co-sponsored by Vogel Library, the Wartburg Scholars Program and the Franklin I. and Irene Saemann Chair in World Communities. The event is free and open to the public. |

The Office of Student Life is pleased to announce that Jay Tommasin has joined Wartburg as the new Director of Campus Security and Safety. In addition, the Residential Life staff has welcomed two new Area Coordinators: Julleon Garrison, AC for Clinton and Founders and Academic Support Coordinator, and Derek Deeney, AC for the Complex and the Residence and Service Learning Coordinator.

| The Community Response Team was assembled at the beginning of the last academic year to ensure meaningful and transparent responses to incidents that impact the campus community. In an effort to be more transparent, this website will be updated as needed to reflect how these incidents are being handled by the college. | Printing cost update |
| As previously announced for the 2018-19 fiscal year, as of Sept. 1 printing prices in the Digital Print Center and on-campus copiers have increased between 1 and 5 cents per copy. A table of the changes can be found here on the Business Office website. The click charges (copier charge per side of the paper) are as follows: 7 cents per side BW (hasn’t changed), 29 cents per side color. The college is adjusting the pricing due to rising costs with college suppliers. Please note the Print Center is the more economical option, and the pricing change reflects this important distinction. If you have questions regarding the printing increase, contact Lori Poehler. |
