Students interested in being partnered with a peer mentor during Winter Term are invited to sign up for the igKnight Mentoring Program. This peer mentoring program is designed to help students pursue and meet their academic, personal, and professional goals no matter where they are in their college experience. Faculty and staff are encouraged to invite students to be a part of the program as well. Students may join the program at any time by signing up here. January is National Mentoring Month. At Wartburg, we recognize the value of mentors in our lives; therefore, we invite you to recognize a mentor by filling out the “Thank a Mentor” form here. Extended dining hours, and board plan changes |
Dining Services has extended the Saturday evening dining hours in Mensa to be 5:15-6:30 p.m., effective immediately. The intent is to make Saturday dinner more convenient and less crowded for students. Also, please remember to verify that you are on the board plan that you want. If you need to make changes, come to the Dining Office (located behind the Info Desk in Saemann Student Center) and sign a form to make those changes before Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 4 p.m. No changes will be allowed after that. |

Certified respite foster care providers needed |
Respite Options of Northeast Iowa will offer a free training course on two Saturdays, Feb. 4 and Feb. 18, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Faith Evangelical Free Church in Sumner. Attendance at both sessions is required. Providers must be at least 19 years old at the time of application and 20 years old to provide respite, complete an application and certification process, and be able to make a one-year commitment to the program. While this is an unpaid position, respite providers do receive a small stipend and help with mileage costs when they travel to do respite. 2017 German Film Series |
The 2017 German Film Series: Profiles in Courage kicks off Tuesday, Jan. 17, with The Promise (Das Versprechen). The film, with English subtitles, follows Sophie and Konrad, who, in 1961, plan an escape from the eastern side of a divided Germany into the west. The film begins at 7:15 p.m. in WBC116. A student-led discussion will follow. The film series, sponsored by the Wartburg College German Institute and the German and German studies programs, is being presented in anticipation of the 500th anniversary of Luther’s Reformation. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is fast approaching! Look for the VAC table on the first floor of Saemann Student Center during weekday meals to sign up for the Day of Service next Monday, Jan. 16, which begins at 1:30 p.m. with a kickoff in Levick Arena. Blankets for Bremwood |
Volunteer to make tie-blankets during MLK Day on Monday, Jan. 16. There will be two shifts for blanket making in the Chapel Commons: 2:30-4 p.m. and 4:30-6 p.m. Help us serve the residents at Bremwood, providing them with something to call their own. The Wartburg Store is excited to host Game Knights on Thursday, Jan. 12, 7-10 p.m., in the McCoy rooms. WartburgAlert test planned |
The emergency notification system for Wartburg College, WartburgAlert, will be tested Thursday, Jan. 12, around noon. WartburgAlert is tested, at minimum, once per term. Alerts aren’t automatically sent. You must register your phone number in order to receive alerts. There is no charge for registering, and you may register up to two numbers for text notification and two numbers for voice phones. You are strongly encouraged to register a SMS number to receive a text, as it is the quickest and most reliable means of notification. To register, log in to the InfoCenter. Under “Offices,” select “Parking & Safety” and then “WartburgAlert.” If you have problems registering, come to the security office Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. To verify that you are registered before Jan. 12, send an email to campus.security@wartburg.edu.

Project for Peace informational meeting |
Students with an interest in supporting and encouraging peace throughout the world should consider developing a Project for Peace. Project proposals should be creative, engaging, meaningful, and measurable. In addition, the selected Wartburg project would be implemented during the summer of 2017 and given $10,000 of funding/reward. Come to an informational meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the McCoy West conference room if interested. Looking for a good book to read? |
There still is space to join Dr. Erika Lindgren in the Hearthside Project during Winter Term. She will be reading The Edge of the World: A Cultural History of the North Sea and the Transformation of Europe. Students who read with her get a copy of the book and a chance to discuss nonfiction outside of the classroom setting. If interested, email Dr. Lindgren. |

'Sexy/OFFENDER' now in art gallery |
An exhibition featuring the works of Ben Moore and Byron Anway will open Monday, Jan. 9, at the Waldemar A. Schmidt Gallery. “Sexy/OFFENDER,” featuring pieces that combine online imaged-based culture and 18th-century French portraiture, will be on display through Feb. 12.
