Viewing glasses for eclipse available from Science Center

A partial solar eclipse will be viewable from campus beginning at 12:43 p.m. Monday, April 8, and will last about two and half hours with its peak around 1:55. Under no circumstances should you look directly at the eclipse without special protective gear. (And your sunglasses absolutely do not count.)
Dozens of special glasses designed to safely view the eclipse will be available from Science Center 107 on Friday, April 5. These will be handed out for free on a first-come, first-served basis, though some will be given to physics students in advance for teaching purposes. A team of Wartburg College faculty and staff attended the National Conference of the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE) in Atlanta from March 20-23. Greg Kneser, vice president and dean of students; the Rev. Maggie Falenschek, dean of spiritual life and Moehlmann Chaplaincy Chair; Dr. Justin Jeffcoat Schedtler, associate professor of religion; Amy Tucker, director for career and alumni engagement; and Dr. Caryn Riswold, the Mike & Marge McCoy Family Distinguished Chair in Lutheran Heritage and Mission, attended plenary, workshop, and small-group sessions around the theme of Vocation for the Life of the World.

Audition for ETK showcase
|
ETK will present a May Term Festival from 3 to 6 p.m. May 18 in Kohlmann Park. All performers, from singing, playing an instrument, to dancing, are invited to audition from 7 to 9 p.m. April 3 and 4, with location to be determined. All performers will audition with one song, though you can perform more than one song at the festival. The ETK team will send out results of the auditions April 8. President Becky donates $8,200 in fac/staff challenge
|
President Becky previously issued a $10,000 challenge to full-time faculty and staff to reach 75% participation on UKnight Day. The number of fac/staff donors increased from 173 last year to 205 this year, hitting 82% of our target. As such, President Becky has donated $8,200 toward the UKnight Day total. Bunce retirement open house planned April 3
|
Kim Bunce, the scholarships and gift planning coordinator in Institutional Advancement, has retired after serving Wartburg for 35 years. Her last official day was March 15, though she will work part time as needed until her replacement is hired and trained. A reception will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in the Hagemann Castle Room for those who would like to wish Kim well in her retirement.

MaTina Clark, assistant registrar for transfer and articulation processes, and Dr. Dan Walther, history department chair and Gerald R. Kleinfeld Endowed Chair in German History, presented as part of a practitioner panel at the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students annual conference, which took place Feb. 21-23 in St. Louis. Their portion of the presentation was entitled "Roadmap to Transfer Pathways," which detailed their work on the steering committee of the Iowa Private Transfer Collaborative. The focus of the IPTC is to support vertical transfer students from Iowa community colleges to Iowa private institutions by creating transfer pathways in selected academic areas.
