Apply for May Term Senate
|
May Term senators are needed to attend approximately three meetings to plan and execute Burgapalooza, discuss Outfly, plan items for Senate in the 2023-24 academic year, and discuss other issues of deliberation. Applications are due 4 p.m. April 4 with a mandatory election meeting at 8 p.m. that day.

Student Employment Appreciation Week begins today
|
The Student Employment Office is celebrating the invaluable work of our amazing student employees and their supervisors this week with the following events.
Daily Candy Guessing Game: Visit dining venues on campus throughout the week to guess the number of candies in the jar for a chance to win the whole jar of candy.
The Great Escape: Keep your eyes peeled for Candyland game pieces. If you find one, return it to the Student Employment Office in Luther Hall 212 to receive a prize.
Cotton Candy Giveaway: Student employees and supervisors are invited to stop by the Business Office in Luther Hall 212 on Wednesday, March 29, starting at 10 a.m. to treat themselves to cotton candy while supplies last.
Candy Bar Awards: The Student Employment Office will deliver awards to those nominated by their supervisors or student employees for going above and beyond in their day-to-day work. Visit the second floor of the Student Center outside the Mensa to read about our honorees.

Business Office sets deadline for Easter Break
|
The Business Office will be closed for Easter Break, April 7-10. The deadline to submit invoices, payment vouchers, cash advances, and reimbursements for payment on Thursday, April 6, will be 4 p.m. Thursday, March 30.

2023 Summer Student Research Fellowship applications open
|
Apply now for summer research funding to cover student stipends, research supplies, equipment, or travel costs. Application requires authorship by one or more returning students and support from a sponsoring faculty member. Award limit is $3,500 per student; research conducted in credit courses is not eligible. Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting Monday, April 24, until funds are exhausted. Contact Dr. Shawn Ellerbroek, director of undergraduate research, with questions.

For 2023-24, a total of $6,000 is available to support activities related to Germany or the German language. Prior supported projects include enrichments to travel opportunities and the German film festival. Applications for the full $6,000 are less likely to be considered. The group presented a well-received panel discussion, "Create a Winning Playbook: How to Score Big in Today's College Sports Media." |

Dr. Andrew Szarejko, assistant professor of political science, attended the International Studies Association's annual convention in Montreal from March 15-18. He chaired one panel, spoke on another, and presented two papers: one on early U.S. defense policy and one on international relations theory. |

Dr. Kuni Terasawa, associate professor of religion, has been elected as a board member of the U.S. chapter of the International Association for Religious Freedom, the oldest organization for interreligious dialogue in the U.S. |

The Waverly Health Center will conduct the following screenings from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, and Wednesday, April 12, in McCoy West: chemistry panel with lipids and iron, hemoglobin A1C glucose, prostate-specific antigen, thyroid-stimulating hormone, blood pressure, and body composition. The costs and fasting requirements for each are noted on the sign-up sheet. All full-time/benefit-eligible employees can participate, as well as spouses covered by Wartburg health insurance.

On-campus summer positions available for student workers
|
There are open student worker positions across campus, including these three roles for the upcoming summer:
Operations & Maintenance Student Facilities Technician: Apply as an individual or gather your friends to apply as a team! O&M is seeking to hire and develop teams of students to help prepare and clean dormitories and academic buildings after camps, conventions, and events as well as to perform floor restoration tasks. Students will be paid $13 per hour.
Dining Services Crew Member: Dining Services is seeking students who are motivated and have great customer service skills to join our team of workers in the Zesty Orange and Mensa. Crew members will be paid $12 per hour and student managers will be paid $13 per hour. All dining student employees will receive a free meal during their shifts.
Business Office Accounting Assistant: This position offers students the opportunity to learn about a variety of accounting areas including financial reporting, auditing, and bank/general ledger account reconciliations. Students will use their critical thinking skills when analyzing accounts and fine-tune their Excel skills as they set up and work in complex spreadsheets.

On March 31, several Wartburg preservice education students will present at the Science Education Update Conference at the University of Northern Iowa. Annie Dietz and Keli Potter will present their BI 455/456 research on biophilia. Lexi Brown will present her work as a Green Iowa AmeriCorps Sustainability Coordinator and blapticomposting in Cedar Valley classrooms. Rose Larson and Kate Heithoff will present continuing work with one-gallon aquatic micro-ecosystems. Dr. Mike Bechtel will present "Ioponics in Iowa Classrooms."
