Gold star for sustainability — Wartburg is Iowa's first private institution to earn a Gold rating from the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS), the leading authority on sustainability in higher education. The college is the second private school in the Midwest and ninth in the nation to achieve the designation. STARS 2.0 ratings are based on scores in nearly 75 categories encompassing academics,

VP for Student Life open forums — The search committee for the vice president for Student Life and dean of student has selected three candidates to interview: Dr. Arthur Sunleaf, Dr. Daniel Kittle, and Dr. Daniel Dentino. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to the following open forums:

What will your InnerKnight say? — Residential Life is sponsoring an artistic dialogue on values. Today, May 14, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., enjoy refreshments while exploring the sidewalks and reflecting on the messages shared yesterday in sidewalk chalk on the campus mall.
Pre-Law Club — The Pre-Law Club will meet Tuesday, May 19, 6 p.m., in the Den, to discuss preparation for the LSAT. Everyone is welcome.
CCE reception — Join the Center for Community Engagement in wishing Mandie Sanderman and Gail Sexton good luck and best wishes as they leave Wartburg. The CCE, on the second floor of Vogel Library, will host an informal reception open to all faculty, staff, and students, Thursday, May 21, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
New picnic tables — Have you noticed the new recycled plastic picnic tables on campus? Please thank Student Senate for authorizing the purchase and the volunteers (including representatives from Student Senate and the Earth Committee) for assembling them in time for May Term enjoyment.
Students honored — Sho Kawashima ’15 and Nothizile Ncube ’17, both international relations majors, received peer reviewed honors at the 24th annual Midwest Political Science Undergraduate Research Conference, March 27-28, at Truman State University. Sho's research paper, The Environmental Effects of Foreign Direct Investment in Developing Countries: Time-lagged Analyses of CO2 Emissions and Ecological Footprint, received first place and Nothi's paper, The Impact of European Union Membership on Economic Development, received third place in Best Paper Awards. Dr. Richard Witmer, associate professor of political science at Creighton University, intends to publish the papers in the Journal of Political Research. The students are advised by Dr. Bret Billet, professor of political science. Their papers emanated from research conducted in Billet's PS302 International Relations course in fall 2014.
Holi Festival — The Asian Student Association is hosting a Holi Festival and homemade Asian dinner Saturday, May 16. The festival, which includes splashing colorful powders, Henna tattoos, and several sports, begins at 2 p.m. behind The Manors. The dinner, which will honor the Nepalese earthquake victims, begins at 5 p.m. in the Knights Village lounge.
Surplus sale — Wartburg will sell used furniture, equipment, and supplies Friday, May 15, from noon to 7 p.m. The surplus sale will be at the Windy Acres barn on the corner of 12th Street Northwest and Seventh Avenue Northwest. Furniture items include wooden and upholstered chairs, desks, shelves, tables, and cubicles. Athletic equipment, dining equipment, and kitchen supplies also are available. Payment by cash and check will be accepted. Questions can be directed to Anne Duncan, sustainability coordinator, at anne.duncan@wartburg.edu.
Day of J benefit — A benefit Saturday, May 16, will raise funds to support Michael Jensen '96, professor of voice, as he undergoes chemotherapy and radiation to fight an inoperable brain tumor diagnosed in February. Hope Overflow will host Day of J on the campus mall starting at 1 p.m. It will feature music from Hope Overflow and Andrew Hoyt '17, a silent auction, a cake walk, games, face painting, and more. You also can donate and read updates through the Jensen family's online fundraising page and buy "Team Mike" T-shirts online.
Tough Knight Mud Run — Challenge yourself while creating awareness for suicide prevention with SAFE's Tough Knight Mud Run. The third annual event will be Saturday, May 16, at Camp Ingawanis in Waverly. The 3.1 mile race features obstacles to test strength, stamina, and mental grit. Check-in begins at 8 a.m., and race time is 9 a.m. Registration is free for Wartburg students and open online.

Register now to avoid D Lot — Vehicle registration is open for the 2015-16 academic year. Reserve a spot by clicking the "Parking Registration" link on this webpage. Lots are assigned by seniority for those who register by the June 24 deadline. Off-campus commuters also need to register their vehicle. After the deadline, those seeking to renew their registration will be charged a $25 fee and likely will be assigned to D Lot. Unsure if you'll bring a vehicle this fall? Athletes in the spotlight — Outstanding athletic achievements and performances from 2014-15 will be honored at the Golden Knight Awards Monday, May 18, 7 p.m., in McCaskey Lyceum. All are invited.
