OrangeMove 2015 — You can donate unwanted and gently-used items from your residence hall room to a local thrift store through OrangeMove 2015. Donations — including school supplies, clothing, nonperishable food items, and lamps — can be left in designated areas in each residence hall (look for the blue and orange signs) until after Commencement Sunday, May 24. Email sustainability@wartburg.edu to set up a time for larger items to be picked up. OrangeMove can not collect large appliances, carpet or carpet pads, damaged furniture, exercise equipment or weights, bed pillows, microwaves, stereos, or TVs. Commencement 2015 — The 163rd Spring Commencement ceremony is Sunday, May 24, 1:30 p.m., in Hoover Fieldhouse & Track. The expected 347 May and August graduates include 30 international students from 22 countries. President Darrel Colson will give the charge to the Class of 2015; Nicole Harrison, a psychology major from Rochester, Minnesota, will offer the student response. Other Commencement weekend activities include:
- Senior Art Exhibit — 9 a.m.-7 p.m., daily, Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery
- May Term Band Concert — Saturday, May 23, 6:30 p.m., South Campus Mall (rain location McCaskey Lyceum)

Check your mailbox — Please visit the Mail Center to check your student mailbox and ask about any delivered packages before leaving campus for the summer. Packages can not be forwarded if they come via UPS.
Coca-Cola coming to campus — Beginning June 1, Coca-Cola will become the main beverage supplier for the college. The change applies to all parts of campus, including Dining Services, athletics, vending, and events held on campus. Questions about this change should be directed to Dr. Margaret Empie, assistant vice president for dining and retail services, at margaret.empie@wartburg.edu or Marty Johnson, associate director for retail and dining services, at marty.johnson@wartburg.edu.
Summer hours — College offices will begin to observe summer hours, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., the week of May 24. Regular hours will resume with week of Aug. 22.
Service blessing and thanksgiving — All are invited to a service of blessing and thanksgiving for the Class of 2015 Saturday, May 23, 5 p.m., in Wartburg Chapel. Dr. Daniel Black, Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry & Engineering Science chair, will give the message, and Paris White '15 will give the testimony. Hope Overflow and Dr. Karen Black will provide music. Communion will be offered, and the attire is casual.
Trust gift establishes scholarship — The college recently received a $1.9 million estate gift to establish the Edward W. Jesse Jr. Endowed Scholarship and support the Transforming Tomorrow campaign. The gift, provided by the Edward W. Jesse Jr. Trust, is one of the five largest estate gifts the college has received. The scholarship will be awarded to rising sophomores and juniors majoring in elementary education. Click here to learn more.
Tokyo Outfly — Dr. Kunihiko Terasawa, assistant professor of world religions, will host the third annual Tokyo Outfly Saturday, Aug. 1., 6-9 p.m., at the Ivy Hall, Filia Restaurant in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan.
Pre-Law Club — The Pre-Law Club will meet Tuesday, May 19, 6 p.m., in the Den, to discuss preparation for the LSAT. Everyone is welcome.
Athletes in the spotlight — Outstanding athletic achievements and performances from 2014-15 will be honored at the Golden Knight Awards today, May 18, 7 p.m., in McCaskey Lyceum. All are invited. VP for Student Life open forums — The search committee for the vice president for Student Life and dean of student has selected three candidates to interview: Dr. Arthur Sunleaf, Dr. Daniel Kittle, and Dr. Daniel Dentino. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to the following open forums:

New picnic tables — Have you noticed the new recycled plastic picnic tables on campus? Please thank Student Senate for authorizing the purchase and the volunteers (including representatives from Student Senate and the Earth Committee) for assembling them in time for May Term enjoyment.
CCE reception — Join the Center for Community Engagement in wishing Mandie Sanderman and Gail Sexton good luck and best wishes as they leave Wartburg. The CCE, on the second floor of Vogel Library, will host an informal reception open to all faculty, staff, and students, Thursday, May 21, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Gold star for sustainability — Wartburg is Iowa's first private institution to earn a Gold rating from the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS), the leading authority on sustainability in higher education. The college is the second private school in the Midwest and ninth in the nation to achieve the designation. STARS 2.0 ratings are based on scores in nearly 75 categories encompassing academics, engagement, operations, and planning and administration. Learn more about the honor here.
Students honored — Sho Kawashima ’15 and Nothizile Ncube ’17, both international relations majors, received peer reviewed honors at the 24th annual Midwest Political Science Undergraduate Research Conference, March 27-28, at Truman State University. Sho's research paper, The Environmental Effects of Foreign Direct Investment in Developing Countries: Time-lagged Analyses of CO2 Emissions and Ecological Footprint, received first place and Nothi's paper, The Impact of European Union Membership on Economic Development, received third place in Best Paper Awards. Dr. Richard Witmer, associate professor of political science at Creighton University, intends to publish the papers in the Journal of Political Research. The students are advised by Dr. Bret Billet, professor of political science. Their papers emanated from research conducted in Billet's PS302 International Relations course in fall 2014.
