Move-in details for returning to campus for Fall Term
Returning students may begin moving back to campus on Monday, Aug. 27. You can check-in at your building's RA office between 8:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. The Fall Term board plan begins on Tuesday morning, Aug. 28. Fall Term classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 29. Please note, classes will be in session on Labor Day, Sept. 3.

The following criteria are in place for students' eligibility to return to campus prior to their scheduled move-in date:
  1. Living more than 500 miles from campus.
  2. Participating in an athletic program that requests participation prior to official Fall move-in dates. This is verified through the Athletics Department.
  3. Participating in an on-campus activity or student employment, verified by the program coordinator, that requests participation prior to official Fall move-in dates (i.e., student teaching, Peer Mentors, Resident Assistants, Dining Services, or Tech Crew).
  4. Students who lived in campus housing for the entire summer.

Students who meet the above criteria will be allowed to stay at no cost to them, after Friday, Aug. 17. However, if you are returning to campus early for the sole purpose of working and the charge is covered by a department, the value of the room will be added to your wages as a fringe benefit. If you have a question about this process, please contact the Business Office.

Students who do not meet the above criteria will need approval from the Residential Life Office. They will be charged $25 a day until the date of their arrival. For returning students, this is Monday, Aug. 27.

The early arrival period is treated in the same manner as break housing closures during the academic year. Thus, you will be responsible for coordinating your own meals prior to the beginning of the Fall Term board plan, which starts on Tuesday morning, Aug. 28. Please contact Cassie Hales, director of residential life, with questions.

Road closures near campus
A new phase of road construction will completely close Bremer Avenue from Seventh Street (Family Video) on the east to 11th Street (Signature Realty/Meyer Pharmacy) on the west, beginning Monday, July 23. Complete closure will reduce the amount of time it will take to finish work on this section. It will also allow use of 12th Street, Seventh Street and Sixth Street for cross traffic that would have been limited by lane separators. Please note that Fifth Street NW, which runs south of the Manors and Knights Village, has been used to travel on the north side of town. The railroad tracks along Fifth Street NW will be closed to through traffic beginning July 23 for about two months. Click here for a map detailing the road closures and alternate routes.
Update on tree removal plan
The company Tri County Tree Pros has begun tree removal on the north end of campus and will continue working south across campus, taking about 10 working days to complete the job. Weather conditions such as high winds and rain could extend the timeframe. For your safety, and that of the workers, please avoid the areas where work is being done, and use alternate paths if needed. As a reminder, many of the trees being removed are ash trees infested with the emerald ash borer, and others are succumbing to age and other weaknesses. The Landscape and Natural Resource Committee will review replacement of the trees (species and location). Click here for more details about the tree removal plan. Contact Anne Duncan with questions.
