Lynes lecture features activists — A trio of Waterloo civil rights activists will speak Saturday, March 28, as part of the J.W. Lynes Memorial Lecture in History. Larry Stumme, Willie Mae Wright and Anna Mae Weems will be the featured speakers for the 1 p.m. panel discussion in White House Business Center 214. Click here to read more about the lecture.
Student showcase — Students who have participated in The Residence and Löhe Hall service-learning projects, Orange Connection, and service trips this academic year will share their experiences at The Showcase, Tuesday, March 31, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in the McCoy rooms of Saemann Student Center. St. Lizzie's in concert — The Saint Elizabeth Chorale will perform Sunday, March 29 in Wartburg Chapel. The free concert begins at 2 p.m. Karen Black, music professor and Rudi Inselmann Endowed Professor in Organ, will direct the concert. Harrison Sheckler '18 will accompany the choir.
Phil & Lit — The next meeting of the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society, Friday, March 27, 4 p.m., in McCoy West of Saemann Student Center, will feature two student presentations. Nichole Lyons '15, Benjamin Bogard '16, and Simon Sager, digital media producer, will discuss their experiences in developing experimental film for digital ministry. Kelsey Brown '15 will present Dirty War and the Immigration Problem, her capstone research about secret detention facilities during the dictatorship in Argentina.

Research stipend applications — Applications for student research stipends for this summer and the next academic year are now available. The R.J. McElroy Student/Faculty Research Fund application and cover page, found here, are due Friday, April 17. Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of faculty members, and up to four proposals will be forwarded to the McElroy/Iowa College Foundation for consideration. Applications require dual authorship by the proposing student or teams of students and a sponsoring faculty member. The application deadline for Wartburg Undergraduate Research Fellowships also is Friday, April 17. Program information can be found here. Applications require authorship by the proposing student and a letter of support by the sponsoring faculty member. Research in credit courses is not eligible for either program.
igKnight Mentoring — The Pathways Center is combining the College Achievement Program (CAP) and the College Achievement Program Extended (CAP+) mentoring programs into one peer-mentoring program this fall. igKnight will focus on mentoring students wherever they are in their college experience. Although a majority of the program focuses on mentoring first-year students on college success, anyone can join the program at any point and be assigned a peer-mentor for assistance with academic, personal, and professional goals. Second-, third-, and fourth-year students are encouraged to apply by Thursday, April 2, to be a mentor. The position involves goal-setting, relationship building, academic success, cross-cultural awareness, and understanding the pillars and culture of Wartburg. Collaborative training program — RSVP by noon today, March 23, to studentemployment@wartburg.edu or 352-8350 for the annual Collaborative Student Employee Training Sessions. Student employees and departmental supervisors are invited to this year's program, Making the Connection. The first session runs Tuesday, March 24, and Tuesday, March 31, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The second will be Saturday, March 28, 10 a.m.-noon. The program consists of two components: Dr. Zak Montgomery, assistant professor in Spanish, will present Cultivating Cultural Competency, and a student employee alumni panel moderated by Jason Thueme, dining services catering manager, will discuss Transitioning from College to the Working World. All sessions will be in Hagemann Auditorium, Science Center 102.
Educators on campus — The Wartburg Department of Education is hosting a team of educators from the Iowa Department of Education and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education through Thursday, March 26. The educators will talk with students, faculty, administrators, and staff as they assess the program for accreditation and state approval of the Teacher Education Program.
Employee health screen — The Wartburg employee health screen is Tuesday, March 24, 7-8:30 a.m., in The W. Wartburg will cover the cost of the basic health screen for full-time/benefit-eligible employees. The cost of basic screening also will be covered for spouses on Wartburg health insurance. Student Employee Appreciation Week — Wartburg celebrates Student Employee Appreciation Week through Saturday, March 28. Supervisors are encouraged to find a way to thank the student employees who are vital to maintaining the college's day-to-day operations. Also, stay tuned, as the 2015 Student Employee of the Year will be announced, and the award nominees will be recognized.

Alumnus closes Artist Series — Steinway & Sons artist Jim McDonough '96 will conclude the Artist Series season and program series Sunday, March 29. The pianist's 3 p.m. show in Neumann Auditorium includes song arrangements from Broadway, the silver screen, and the big band, patriotic, inspirational, country and classical genres. Tickets are $20 to $30 for adults and $10 for youth. They are available online at www.wartburg.edu/artist, by calling 352-8691, or at the Saemann Student Center Ticket Office weekdays from noon to 4 p.m.
TerraCycle program ends — The Waverly TerraCycle program that allowed for recycling of food wrappers and bags at Wartburg is no longer operating. Waverly-Shell Rock High School ran the program, but recently companies whose products are sold by the high school stopped sponsoring TerraCycle and no organization has stepped up to take on the local coordination. The TerraCycle containers on campus will be re-purposed to collect electronic waste. Sensitive and confidential data should not be placed in these containers. Model U.N. Conference — All are invited to the Model United Nations Conference, The Status of Women In Developing Countries, Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, in Science Center 102. It runs 4-6 p.m. Friday and 3-5 p.m. Saturday. The Wartburg Model United Nations student organization hopes to have 50 delegations engage in insightful and intellectually engaging discourse. Fourth-year earns grant — Kwabena Owusu-Amoah '15 has received funds from the Clinton Foundation to expand the reach of OBaa 2.0, a software application that aims to reduce the maternal mortality rate in his home country. The Ghana native was awarded a $6,000 Clinton Foundation Resolution Grant at the Clinton Global Initiative University conference this month at the University of Miami.
