Maintenance requests
The maintenance team reminds everyone that all maintenance work order requests should be submitted electronically through the InfoCenter. Click the Maintenance link on the front page of the InfoCenter. Click the Submit Service Request link on the left side of the page. Provide the location of the service requested using a dropdown menu. Leave all pertinent information regarding the issue in the dialog box provided. A photo also may be uploaded if needed. Once the request has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation email to your wartburg.edu address. Another email will be sent when the service has been completed. All non-emergency requests should be submitted through the online system. All emergency situations (e.g. water leaking or a fire or safety hazard) should be reported immediately to Maintenance & Operations or Security. If you experience difficulties requesting service, please contact the Physical Plant at 319-352-8318.
All-American Rejects tickets on sale today
Tickets go on sale at 8 a.m. today for the All-American Rejects concert at Wartburg on Sunday, Oct. 7. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Levick Arena featuring singer Keelan Donovan as the opening act.
For a limited time, Wartburg faculty and staff may purchase ONE ticket each at the discount rate of $5 online at this link beginning at 8 a.m. today through Friday, Sept. 7, using your @wartburg.edu email address, or in person at the Ticket Office at the Information Desk in Saemann Student Center (open 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday and Thursday, must present Wartburg ID). The discount ticket price is for the Wartburg community only; please do NOT share the link above with others. Those who abuse the discount will lose their tickets. Discount prices end after Sept. 7. All remaining tickets will go on sale to the public beginning Saturday, Sept. 8, for $20 each. All seats are general admission.

Sign up for 'God's Work, Our Hands' on Sept. 9
Students, faculty and staff are invited to serve, worship and enjoy fellowship during "God’s Work, Our Hands" Sunday on Sept. 9 as Wartburg teams up with Waverly's Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School. Service projects will be completed in the Waverly community from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., worship will be at 11 a.m. in the Wartburg Chapel, and a sack lunch will be served at noon on campus. Get new or updated photo headshots
Julie Drewes, visual media manager, will have an open house for anyone wanting new or updated headshots on Thursday, Sept. 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in FAC 52 (photo studio). Directions to FAC 52:
  • Enter the main lobby area of the Bachman Fine Arts Center by the art gallery (windows side, facing the chapel).
  • On the right, take the staircase down to the basement.
  • Follow the long hallway about half-way and turn left (clock on the wall for reference).
  • The studio is the first door on the right.
Service to install Pastor Beckstrom
All are invited to join the campus community in honoring the Rev. Dr. Brian Beckstrom during Chapel time on Wednesday, Sept. 5. The college will install Pastor Brian as the new Dean of Spiritual Life and the Herbert and Cora Moehlmann Chaplaincy Chair during a service beginning at 10:15 a.m. in Wartburg Chapel. As Dean of Spiritual Life, Pastor Brian will lead the College’s ministry and promote faith exploration and development in and out of the classroom. He will also continue to teach courses in Wartburg’s Leadership program and Religion Department. Following the service, all are invited for light refreshments in the Chapel Commons.

Info.Wartburg.edu: This intranet is for the on-campus community (staff, faculty, and current students). This website features links for KnightTime, The Wartburg Store, email, campus events, dining menus, employment/benefit information, Academic Affairs, academic catalog and calendars, Study Abroad Office, Wartburg West, Undergraduate Research, Safety & Security, ITS, Registrar, Sustainability, Pathways, Student Life Offices/Policies, and much more.
My.Wartburg.edu: This learning management system is for faculty and current students. This website is where you will find all your course information, resources for faculty, and where students register for classes.
Wartburg surplus items for faculty and staff
Wartburg College will sell its surplus assets located in Windy Acres and Players Theater this month. On Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., these locations will be open to faculty and staff, who may tag items needed for their work spaces. This is only to tag items to use for Wartburg business. Due to staff availability this is the only time departments can come tag items. Items not tagged will be priced and sold through various public sale options. Employees interested in items for personal use should follow the forthcoming directions for the public sale. Items available in storage include desks, file cabinets, chairs, shelves and garbage cans. Please email Todd Parsons or call x8367 for details. If your department has items to move to storage, please call Maintenance before Sept. 7. 
Be a Service Trip adviser this year

Volunteer for Scholarship Day Luncheons
The Admissions Office is looking for faculty and staff members to host tables of prospective students and their families during our Scholarship Day luncheons. There are four dates this year: Sunday, Oct. 7; Sunday, Nov. 11; Sunday, Jan. 20; and Sunday, Feb. 17. The luncheons begin at noon and conclude around 1:30 p.m. If you are interested in hosting, please email Mallory.luensmann@wartburg.edu with the dates you are interested in.
Phil and Lit Society meets Friday
Anne Duncan, environmental and sustainability coordinater at Wartburg, will be the speaker on Friday, Sept. 7, at 4 p.m. She will be talking and answering questions about trends in our climate and the impact it has on our weather, agriculture, and way of life. Phil and Lit will return to the McCoy rooms in Saemann Student Center for this session.

New art exhibit open
"Mandalas," an exhibition of paintings by artist Bart Vargas, is open in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery on the first floor of Bachman Fine Arts Center through Oct. 21. Inspired by his travels to China, Vargas explores the relationship between the circle and the square through color theory and pattern. A mandala is a traditional spiritual symbol representing the universe. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, or by appointment.
Be part of Hearthside reading program
This year will mark the eighth year that students and faculty/staff have enjoyed the Hearthside experience. An initiative through the Slife Professorship in the Humanities, the program provides faculty/staff the opportunity to read a book of their choice with up to three students in an informal environment. Faculty and staff from all disciplines are invited to participate in this program. Hearthside is co-sponsored by the Humanities Think Tank at Wartburg College and the Slife Professorship in the Humanities. The reading model (how many times you meet and when) and the book choice are yours. Contact Zak Montgomery if you have any questions or would like to participate this academic year.

Weekday Chapel services are from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Wartburg Chapel; Sunday services begin at 10:30 a.m. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. PROFESSIONAL NOTES
 
Dr. Kristin Wendland, visiting assistant professor of religion, and Dr. Caryn Riswold, professor of religion, attended the recent Convocation of Teaching Theologians of the ELCA. The annual gathering was held July 30-Aug. 1 at Augsburg University in Minneapolis. Riswold serves on the Steering Committee for the Association of Teaching Theologians responsible for planning the conference, whose theme this year was Teaching and Learning at the Intersection of Science, Business, and Religion.

Dr. Walter (Chip) Bouzard, professor of religion, published “God’s World and God’s People (Genesis),” in Augsburg Adult Bible Study, vol. 51, no. 4 (September 2018). The publication includes a participant’s book and a leader’s guide.

Derek Solheim, Pathways Center director, presented to faculty and staff participating in a NetVUE-funded summer retreat entitled “Pathways: Helping Students Explore Purpose” at Waynesburg University on Aug. 8 in Waynesburg, Penn. His presentation was titled “Growing a Campus Culture of Vocation” and highlighted the various vocational discernment activities the college has implemented as a result of the Lilly Grant.

Dr. Kunihiko Terasawa, associate professor of world religions, published “The Case of Hirose Akira: The Ethical Predicament of a Japanese Buddhist Youth during World War II,” by a peer-reviewed journal, Religions, MDPI, Basel, Switzerland (June 2018). 

KatieJo Kuhens, sports information director, presented on the panel for “Structuring your Week and Working More Efficiently” at the Midwest Division III SID Convention on Aug. 2 in Milwaukee.

The following faculty and staff members attended the 2018 Vocation of a Lutheran College Conference, Civil Discourse in a Fragmented and Multi-religious Society, at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, July 16-18: the Rev. Dr. Brian Beckstrom, dean of spiritual life; Emily Christensen, news director and assistant director of marketing and communication; Veronica Reece, Pathways associate for vocation and mentoring; Dr. LeAnn Faidley, associate professor of engineering science; Dr. Greg Lorenz, Wartburg West academic and program director; and President Dr. Darrel Colson.
