Blood drive Thursday
The VAC will sponsor a blood drive Thursday, Jan. 25, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., in the Chapel Commons. The VAC will be tabling in the Student Center on Jan. 23 and 24 if you would like to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. Those who donate will receive a T-shirt. The VAC is also in need of volunteers to help the day of the drive. If you would like to volunteer, email vac@wartburg.edu.

Education Table Talk rescheduled
The table talk with Dr. Rick Snyder on Reforming Education: How Might Reformation Thinking Inform K-12 Educational Change Today? has been rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 1, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in McCoy West. Bring your own lunch with you, or lunch is provided for attendees if you order in the Den prior to the meeting and sign the sheet at the cashier. All are welcome to attend. Contact slcm.office@wartburg.edu with questions.
Sociology Club speaker 
Randy Van Gent, a former agent for the FBI and current victim/witness coordinator for the Bremer County Courthouse, will talk about his employment history and experience as well as his educational background Thursday, Jan. 25, 7 p.m., in Buckmaster (WBC 214). Wartburg’s Sociology Club is sponsoring the event, and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. 
Phil & Lit Society
The next meeting of the Wartburg Philosophical and Literary Society will be Friday, Jan. 26, at 4 p.m., in McCoy West. Dr. Kyle A. Schenkewitz, visiting assistant professor of religion and philosophy, will be the speaker. The title of his talk is Shifting Empires: Seventh-Century Christians Facing the Arab Conquest.
Next issue of Trumpet Magazine
The next issue of Trumpet Magazine will be out Wednesday, Jan. 24. Click here to see the new issue later this week and to see previous issues. The new issue will feature stories about Todd Greer and Dr. Bill Withers.
V-Day to host Candlelight Dinner 
Sign-up for the Candlelight Dinner hosted by V-Day will take place Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 24 and 25, 5:15-7 p.m., in Mensa. V-Day members will discuss their organization while students, faculty, and staff mingle over dinner on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 6:30 p.m., in the Heritage Ballroom. The cost for students with a board plan is $2. This may be paid with points or cash at the time of sign up. Off-board students may also attend, and their cost will be $10 at the time of sign up. Special dietary considerations will be taken into account.

Scholarship opportunity 
Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants scholarships, with an award value of $1,000, are available to students currently registered in any accredited post-secondary institution. The deadline to apply is June 14. Full details are available here.

Dance Marathon FT5K race link
Wartburg College Dance Marathon will sponsor a 5K race Saturday, March 17. Registration fee is $20 by March 1 and $25 after March 1. T-shirts are guaranteed for early registrants (by March 1). Registration will also be available the day of the race, starting at 7:30 a.m.; the race will begin at 8:30 a.m. All profits will go to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Dance Marathon Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament
Sign up for the Dance Marathon Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament Saturday, Jan. 27. Cost is $30 per team. All profits go to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Teams must include three girls on the court at all times and one Wartburg student on each team. Non-Wartburg players must fill out liability form prior to playing. The first-place team will win a gift card. Payments to play can be sent to Connor Frerichs, Box #0622, 100 Wartburg Blvd, Waverly, IA, 50677.

Gearing up for a job or internship? Need to polish your résumé or start from scratch? We’re here to help. On Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Clinton Classroom, Pathways Peers and professional staff will be on hand to help with résumés and cover letters. McElroy Fellowship application deadline Jan. 31
Top seniors applying for Ph.D. programs are encouraged to apply for the McElroy Fellowship, which supports $10,000 for each of three Ph.D. program years. Click here for more information. Contact Gloria Campbell for an application form. The deadline to apply is Jan. 31. Two references are required.
Apply for a Student Senate scholarship
Student Senate annually funds two $500 scholarships, awarded to Wartburgstudents who embody the principles set forth in the mission statement, are well-rounded students, and exhibit leadership and service through their involvement on and/or off campus. FIELD Program accepting applications 
The Minor League Baseball Fostering Inclusion through Education and Leadership Development (FIELD) Program is now accepting applications for the class of 2018. The program, geared toward women and minority students, was created under the MiLB Diversity Initiative  to engage the next generation of diverse leaders in sports business. The program takes place June 4-9 in Vero Beach, Fla. Cost is $250 plus cost of travel. The application deadline is March 16. Click here to apply. Click here for more information about the program.

Upcoming Chapel services
Make a New Year's resolution to join us for Chapel! Weekday services are from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Wartburg Chapel; Sunday services begin at 10:30 a.m. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester. This week's schedule:

Second report for Oct. 31 Table Talks
Several in the campus community have asked for a report summing up the Reformation Table Talks from Oct. 31, 2017. Small groups spent 2 ½ hours discussing 21 different questions about Wartburg’s mission and its focus on faith and learning, and on the future of Spiritual Life and Campus Ministry. Click here to see the second mini-report. Youth group leader opening in Waverly
Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly seeks a person to lead their high school youth group during the school year. Responsibilities include leading Wednesday night youth group, assisting with special group events, and mission projects. The leader will also be expected to attend one worship service a week and Sunday School. Position is 10 hours/week and candidates must be at least 20 years old. Seminary samplers 
Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago will offer three upcoming Seminary Samplers, scheduled for Feb. 24-26, March 19, and April 18. This is a time to meet current faculty and students, sit in on classes, and continue to discern how God is calling you into the world. For more information, go to www.lstc.edu/admissions.
Sanctuary on Wednesdays
Expect a relaxed time of Bible study, fellowship, worship band music, prayers, and communion. Sanctuary takes place at 9 p.m. each Wednesday evening in Chapel Commons (basement). Come by at 8:45 for snacks and conversation. This is a great way to center yourself in the midst of your busy week.
SALT meeting
SALT will meet Sunday, Jan. 28, 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m., in the Chapel Commons. The agenda has been emailed to the leaders who were involved last term.

The women's basketball team, which boasts 20 Iowa players, is ranked No. 2 in the nation, as reported by CBS 2/Fox 28

Lindy Winterscheidt Zars ’02 talked about her work as director of marketing strategy and communication for VGM & Associates and in the community as part of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier's 20 Under 40 series.
