PROFESSIONAL NOTES

Dr. Bill Withers, professor of journalism and communication, presented one of two morning keynotes, joining former Wartburg Board of Regents member Pastor Mike Housholder, at the Hope Leadership Conference, Oct. 11-13. He also led a full follow-up workshop for attendees later in the conference schedule. Withers was also a guest facilitator for 400 people at Kirkwood Community College on Oct. 9, as sponsored by MidwestOne.

Jen Sassman, director of financial aid, was asked to co-lead a leadership forum sponsored by the Iowa Association for Student Financial Aid Administrators. Sassman and the assistant director of financial aid from Luther College re-wrote the curriculum, then orchestrated the first day of the two-day meeting in Des Moines, Oct. 3-4. The forum focused on personal and professional development of the attendees to better serve their college/universities, the association, and their communities. It also focused on strategic planning and best practices in financial aid management.

Amy Nolan, professor of English, had her essay, “Writing a Sacred Self: Kathy Acker and Wonder,” published in Critical Innovations: Reading and Writing Experimental Texts, Palgrave Macmillan Press, October 2017.
