Move-out waste guidelines

Students, as you move out, please keep the following in mind:

  • Large items, like furniture, appliances, and rugs, should be placed adjacent to the dumpster, not inside of it.
  • Smaller items, like clean clothing and bedding, unperishable food, and housewares, should be taken to the donation station in the lounge.
  • Usable school supplies can go to the donation station or be taken to the Reused Store in the basement of Old Main.
  • Trash should only go in the dumpster, not the recycling, or the college will be fined by our hauler.
  • The cardboard dumpsters are only for recycling cardboard, they are not for other recycling.
  • Glass cannot go into single stream (blue bin) recycling. Please put glass in the glass box to avoid fines.
  • Finally, on-campus waste collection is only for on-campus residential students. Off-campus students need to coordinate disposal of large items with landlords or the city by calling 319-352-6247.

Please email sustainability@wartburg.edu with questions. Thank you for helping us manage the move-out waste.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Holi Festival & Asian BBQ
The Asian Student Association (ASA) has rescheduled its Holi/Asian BBQ for Monday, May 22. The Holi (festival of colors) will begin at 3 p.m. on Clinton Field. The Asian BBQ will begin at 4:30 p.m in front of Clinton Hall (near the benches). Please come and enjoy!
Bicycles over the summer
Unless you are living on campus this summer, you must remove all of your personal property when you check out of your room. This includes bicycles. There are no storage options available on campus, and any bicycles found on campus after May 29 will be deemed abandoned and disposed of as the college deems appropriate.
Register your vehicle for next year, save $25
If you are bringing a vehicle to campus in the fall, for any duration, you must register online by June 27. Registrations after that date will incur a $25 late registration fee. To register, log in on InfoCenter. Under “Offices” select “Parking & Safety” and then click on “Parking Registration.” If you register correctly, you’ll receive a confirmation email. If you have any problems registering, contact Campus Security or visit the Campus Security Office weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wartburg garden
The Wartburg garden, located across the street from Lohe Hall, still has beds open for members of the Wartburg community who will be in the area this summer. Those who “adopt” a bed in the garden are expected to volunteer 1-2 hours per month maintaining the garden beds for the college, use organic practices, and maintain the weeds and any overhang in your bed. Anne Duncan, sustainability coordinator, can advise you on how to plant, when to plant, and how to maintain your plants. Email Duncan if you are interested.
Say thanks to Kathy
Kathy Liddle, Spiritual Life and Campus Ministry office coordinator, will be leaving the college at the end of May.  Behind the scenes, she has faithfully served Wartburg students, faculty, staff, and alumni for 18 years—one year in Development and 17 years in SL&CM. Pastors Ramona and Brian invite you to share your thanks for her work with a card or email (or casually drop by the office before the end of the week). She has been an invaluable partner in ministry and we are grateful for her faithful service.
The Juice schedule
This is the final issue of Student Juice for the academic year, with occasional emails as needed throughout the summer. The Juice will resume weekly emails when Fall Term begins on Sept. 5.
