Got leaves? Wartburg College Dance Marathon is looking to rake in the dough for the Iowa City Children’s Hospital. WCDM participants will be raking yards in Waverly on Saturday, Nov. 5, and Saturday, Nov. 12. A monetary donation is requested for the service. If you have a yard that needs to be raked and you would love to donate to a great cause, contact Liz Rucker to get your name on the list.
Toy drive – Wartburg College Dance Marathon is hosting a toy drive for the Iowa City Children’s Hospital now through Thursday, Nov. 10. All donations will be given to the hospital in memory of Cindy Carlson. Suggested donations include children’s books, art supplies for kids, and board games; all donations must be new. WCDM will collect all donations from offices Wednesday, Nov. 9; please notify Liz Rucker if you would like your items to be picked up. Donations also can be dropped off in the Alumni & Parent Relations Office with Tony Smith. Please contact Liz Rucker with questions.
Department of Labor changes — Several informational meetings regarding Department of Labor changes are planned. We will be discussing pay, accounting for hours worked, overtime, lunches and breaks, PTO, updated policies for travel, electronic devices, how to log in and out of Kronos, and any questions you have. Title IX Resource Card – The Title IX Team at the college has been working on a Title IX Resource Card for faculty, staff and students. We are pleased to announce the card is finished and will be making its way to departments. The HR Office will be distributing these via campus mail, but if you run out or need extras, contact Karen Thalacker, Title IX coordinator, or stop by the HR Office.

Live presentation from Wartburg West – Students in IS 101 classes will be linked up to Wartburg West students in Denver, Colo., to hear more about their classes, internships, and living in Denver for a semester. The presentation will take place Monday, Oct. 24, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., in McCaskey Lyceum in Saemann Student Center. All students and faculty are welcome.
Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar – The next Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar will be Tuesday, Oct. 25, 11:30 a.m., in SC 134. Actuarial science major Leah Jungling '17 will speak about her experiences working for John Deere Engine Works in Waterloo. Refreshments will be served. Looking ahead, the Nov. 1 seminar will feature an information session for students interested in STEM graduate school programs.
Nominate an individual for exemplary service – The Pastor Larry Trachte Service Award recognizes staff or faculty members who embody Pastor Trachte’s enthusiasm, support, involvement, dedication, and overall commitment to Wartburg’s mission of service. Decorate a tree for Festival of Trees – The annual Wartburg-Waverly Festival of Trees will brighten the halls of Wartburg’s Classroom Technology Center Nov. 30-Dec. 15. If your office, academic department, or group/organization would like to decorate a Christmas tree to display, please sign up by Monday, Nov. 21. A partnership between the college and Waverly Chamber of Commerce, the festival is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and attracts more than 5,000 guests each year.
Cathedrals and Castles May Term course – Consider registering for the May Term course HI 212 Cathedrals and Castles. Take advantage of visiting the remains of castles, cathedrals, churches, and monasteries, and learn how these structures were built and used. Satellite voting site — Wartburg will host a satellite voting location in McCaskey Lyceum in Saemann Student Center on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The location, open from 10 a.m to 4 p.m., can be used by all students, faculty, staff and community members registered to vote in Bremer County. Voter registration also will be available that day.
Christmas with Wartburg tickets on sale — Tickets are on sale for shows Saturday, Dec. 3, at 3 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday Dec. 4, at 3 p.m., in Wartburg College’s Neumann Auditorium, as well as Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m., at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. Tickets are $18 for all Waverly performances and $20 for the West Des Moines performance. Meals will be offered in Waverly on Saturday and Sunday at 5 p.m. for an additional cost. Concert and meal tickets can be purchased online at www.wartburg.edu/christmas, from 10 a.m. to noon weekdays at the ticket office in Saemann Student Center or by calling 319-352-8691 during ticket office hours.
