Notice from The Wartburg Store — Tuition charging at The Wartburg Store for Fall Term ends Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 5:30 p.m. Those taking a second-seven-weeks class and wanting to charge course materials to their tuition account need to make their purchases by then.
Outfly notification — Students who reside off campus and would like to receive a phone call on the morning of Outfly can sign up on the form outside The Hub in Saemann Student Center. Calls will be made between 5:45 and 6 a.m.
Host a candlelight dinner — Looking to promote your campus organization? Student Center Council is accepting applications through Wednesday, Sept. 30, to host Candlelight Dinners. Applicants should email a letter of intent to Shelly Geweke, nutrition and services adviser, at shelly.geweke@wartburg.edu, including the organization's name, contact person, phone number, first and second preferences for dates, and a short paragraph about what makes the organization great. Dates are awarded on a first-come-first-served basis.
Outfly volleyball tournament — Sign up online for the Outfly volleyball tournament, which will be at 2 p.m. on the sand volleyball courts behind the Manors. Teams should be made up of 6-8 people of any class year or gender. Contact Molly Zmudka at molly.zmudka@wartburg.edu with questions.
Social work panel features alumni — A social work panel discussion featuring alumni will be Friday, Oct. 2, 2:30-3:30 p.m., in Old Main 200. The panelists will discuss how their jobs promote fairness and opportunities in areas such as homeless outreach, children’s mental health, and bullying prevention. Seminar features internship panel — The next Math, Computer Science & Physics Department Seminar will be Tuesday, Sept. 29, 11:30 a.m., in Science Center 134. A student panel will discuss summer internship experiences. Participants include David Logan '16, a computer science major who worked at Intel Corporation; Andrew Sorensen '16, a math and business major who worked at Sammons Financial Group; and Ana Julante '17, a computer science and math major who interned with John Deere.
Estes to lead Homecoming parade — Internationally renowned opera star Simon Estes, distinguished professor and artist-in-residence, will be the grand marshal of the Homecoming parade Saturday, Oct. 3. Estes joined the college in 2002. Today, he continues to impact the lives of Wartburg students through master classes, private voice lessons, classroom visits, and performances with ensembles. Bach's Lunch features alumna — Kartika Putri '10 will be the guest artist at the Bach’s Lunch organ series Friday, Oct. 2. Putri’s performance at 12:30 p.m. in Wartburg Chapel will be preceded by a noon lunch and explanation of the program in Chapel Commons. At Wartburg, Putri majored in church music and organ performance. Today, she is working toward a doctorate in organ performance at Indiana University. The program will include pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Michael Bach and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.
A cappella concert Oct. 16 — Vocal Point, Brigham Young University’s nine-man a cappella ensemble that captivated audiences on NBC’s The Sing-Off, will headline a concert Friday, Oct. 16. Wartburg’s Festeburg, a student-led a cappella ensemble with a repertoire ranging from classical choral canon to contemporary pop, will open the show at 7:30 p.m. in Neumann Auditorium. Tickets, which can be purchased at www.wartburg.edu/vp and will be available at the door, are $25 for adults and $10 for youth and those with a student ID.

Honor Council openings — First-years, the Honor Council is seeking two members from the Class of 2019. The council is a board of students which deliberates cases of academic dishonesty presented by professors and students. Email honorcouncil@wartburg.edu with questions or to apply.
Career fair — The Wartburg Career, Internship, Graduate, and Professional School Fair will be Tuesday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., in The W Hall of Champions. The fair is sponsored by the Pathways Center and the Center for Community Engagement.

Campus stores celebrate students — The Wartburg Store is joining hundreds of other campus stores across the U.S. and Canada to celebrate the fifth annual National Student Day, sponsored by the National Association of College Stores. Wartburg students can participate in a new national contest by snapping a selfie in The Wartburg Store and posting it to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with the hashtag #GIVEME5NSD. Five randomly selected students will receive a $500 credit to their college store. Students can enter up to five times, and for every entry received NACS will donate $1, up to $5,000, to children’s literacy advocate Reading Is Fundamental. The contest runs through Thursday, Oct. 22. Keep on Learning — Hot-button environmental issues like climate change and fracking will be among the topics discussed during the October Keep on Learning community education series beginning Thursday, Oct. 1. Lynn Brant, professor emeritus of geology at the University of Northern Iowa, will lead Spaceship Earth, examining the basic geology of the earth, including mineral resources, geological hazards, and topics of environmental interest. Wartburg to host humanities conference — Wartburg will host the fifth Midwest Undergraduate Conference in the Humanities Saturday, Nov. 7. It will feature students' original, research-based scholarship in the humanities, with a focus on interdisciplinary and diversity-related work.
