Recycling change
— Due to a change in contractor ownership and pricing, all recyclable paper now can go into single-stream recycling containers. The bins marked for paper have been removed. All recyclable paper, plastic, and metal can be placed in desk-side recycling bins and emptied into the nearest waste and recycling station. If you need containers or have questions, email Anne Duncan, sustainability coordinator, at anne.duncan@wartburg.edu.

Recycling progress demonstrated
— The Sustainability Office reports garbage collection has decreased and recycling has significantly increased through the adoption of changes to the waste management process implemented in 2014. The percentage of items recycled has doubled year over year, according to measurements taken in February and March against 2014 benchmarks. This academic year, Wartburg will save $9,315 by reducing its garbage collection services by 36 cubic yards per week. Yet, work remains: the college's goal is to divert 80 percent of materials by 2020. This year, the Sustainability Office will focus on educating students about recycling in the residence halls. Recycling costs the college 75 percent less than sending items to a landfill. With questions, email Anne Duncan, sustainability coordinator, at anne.duncan@wartburg.edu.
