Homecoming wrap-up — Re-live Homecoming 2014 through a photo album and Knight Vision videos of Kastle Kapers and the Homecoming concert.
Fall Break— The first break of the academic year comes this week. Classes are off Thursday and Friday, Oct. 23-24, and resume Monday, Oct. 27.
Campaign launched — A surprise announcement of a $2 million challenge grant from campaign steering committee co-chairs Michael and Marge McCoy highlighted Friday's gala to launch the Transforming Tomorrow comprehensive campaign. The campaign's $75 million goal includes $37 million to ensure student access, $14 million to enhance student living and learning, $16 million for programs enabling student success and $8 million for the annual fund. To that end $53.9 million in gifts and commitments was secured during the campaign's leadership phase, which began in June 2012. Click here to watch the gala broadcast.
STEM seminar — The next Department of Math, Computer Science & Physics seminar is Tuesday, Oct. 28, 11:30 a.m., in Science Center 134. Representatives from Iowa State University and the University of Iowa will be at the session. Students interested in graduate school in STEM fields should attend.

FTK All DM Day fundraiser — Support Wartburg College Dance Marathon tonight, Oct. 20, 5-8 p.m., at the Waverly Pizza Ranch. A portion of the profits earned and all of the tips will benefit the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
Scary stories — "They won't stay dead!" is the theme for the 2014 Scary Writing Contest, sponsored by the Castle and the Writing, Reading, and Speaking Lab. Submissions must be under 2,000 words and contain the phrase, "he/she/they won't stay dead." The winner will receive a $50 gift card to The Wartburg Store and be published in the fall edition of the Castle. Send submissions to castle@wartburg.edu by Friday, Oct. 31.
Registrar reminder — Second seven-week courses for Fall Term begin today, Oct. 20. The last day to drop these courses without a “W” or add a course is Monday, Oct. 27.
Film fans sought — The Wartburg Film Society will hold an informational meeting tonight, Oct. 20, 8 p.m., in the Konditorei. It is looking for members interested in conversing about film. For more information, contact president Natasha Willey at natasha.willey@gmail.com.
Inspiring speakers — RSVP by Thursday, Oct. 23, for a presentation Thursday, Oct. 30, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in Science Center 102. Dan '95 and Jennifer Digmann have battled multiple sclerosis for more than 30 years combined. Their inspiring message, Create a Culture of Inclusion, will center on how they cope. Contribute to the Castle — The Castle is accepting through Friday, Oct. 24, submissions of short stories, essays, poetry, and photography. New this year, submit graphic design and other two-dimensional mediums of art (drawings, paintings, etc.). Send submissions in PDF form to castle@wartburg.edu to be considered for publication in the fall edition.
Advising Week — Advising Week is Monday, Oct. 27, through Friday, Oct. 31. First-year students are required to meet with their adviser, and all students are encouraged to do so. Check with your adviser to sign up for an appointment. Beyond confirming or adjusting Winter/May term schedules, this is a great opportunity to get to know your adviser, talk about your major and where it might lead you, and plan for long-term options such as study abroad, Wartburg West, internships, etc.

Service award nominations — Applications are due Wednesday, Nov. 12, for two awards to be bestowed during St. Elizabeth Week, Nov. 15-21. Nominate a student for the St. Elizabeth Award for Service here and a faculty or staff member for the Pastor Larry Trachte Award for Service here. Recipients will be recognized during chapel Wednesday, Nov. 19.
The Saint John's Bible volunteers — Volunteers are needed to serve as Knights of the Page (docents) for The Saint John's Bible, the hand-written, hand-illuminated Bible on display at Vogel Library through December.
