Housing Lottery 2021

Housing Sign-Up 2021 Information

All full-time students enrolled at Wartburg College must live on-campus for the full academic year (unless approved by the Residential Life Office). Students who choose to reside elsewhere without approval will be charged full room and board costs for the entire academic year as Wartburg is a residential college.

The following is a brief overview of the process & important dates. We strongly encourage you to seek more specific information about housing, meal plans & parking/vehicle registration, on our website. If you have any other questions, please contact your RA, Area Coordinator, or the Residential Life Office.

All students have three opportunities to attend information sessions about the housing process:

Are you still looking for a roommate? Anyone who is still looking for roommates should check out our Facebook page or talk to their RA. -  https://www.facebook.com/groups/WartburgRoommateSearch

Vocabulary

  • Lottery Number- Randomly generated numbers (1-2000) assigned based on your anticipated graduation date and how many years you have resided on campus. When used with a roommate or a suite the AVERAGE determines the new number used for both people/whole group to determine the order residents may pick their housing. Lower numbers select first.
  • Room or Suite Capacity - Designated number of people that fill a room or suite.
  • Swapping - The act of 2 students agreeing to share a “space” for the academic year because one student is leaving campus for Fall and one student is leaving campus for Winter. Please review the Swapping Process information below.

The Process

  1. Your LOTTERY NUMBER will be sent to you via campus email on March 12. Students with account balances over $5,000 will not receive lottery number and will not be allowed to participate in the Housing Lottery. Please visit the Business Office to address balances over $5,000.  If someone in your group does not have their lottery number your group will not be allowed to receive a room during the lottery process.
  2. Decide your desired housing location, room type (which needs be filled, to capacity), and roommate(s). Calculate your group lottery number by averaging all the lottery numbers in your group. Remember to have back-up locations and groupings. When regrouping is necessary, lottery number averages must be recalculated for the new group. * If you plan to live with a new, incoming student, they will be assigned a lottery number of 2000 and that number will be used to calculate averages to determine sign up order."
  3. Complete online housing sign-up forms. Forms are located online (LINKS BELOW) and will be emailed to students when each form opens. You will select your top three, room preferences, when completing the form. Rooms will be assigned based on average group lottery number (lowest to highest). You must fill a suite or a room to CAPACITY. Each form will only be available for 18 hours at a time. If you miss your sign-up window, you may lose your chance to obtain a suite with the group you had hoped. Only one person per group will submit a form. That is the person that will be notified of your groups housing assignment.
