COVID vaccine availability expanded

The Iowa Department of Public Health has just expanded eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine, starting today, to people ages 16-64 who have chronic health conditions that make them susceptible to the disease. Starting today, the list of those who are eligible for vaccines will include those "with medical conditions that are or may be an increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19." The news release linked to a list from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that includes the following conditions: cancer, diabetes, kidney disease, COPD, Down syndrome, heart and immune-system conditions, obesity, pregnancy, sickle-cell disease and smoking. Service Trips are back for Tour Week!  

Missed the chance to go on a service trip last year? Heard great things and want to experience it yourself? Here’s your opportunity to enjoy a service experience with COVID policies to help keep you safe. Service trips are planned for April 28-May 2. Introduction to Public Health course added for May Term

Now that the pandemic has your attention, why not spend this May Term learning more about how public health prevents disease and helps people live longer, healthier lives? PBH 101: Introduction to Public Health provides an overview of the field, from infectious disease to social factors that impact health outcomes. Additionally, this course will explore the government’s impact on individual health and careers in both health care and public health. Coronavirus will be discussed along with other global epidemics and how the health care system is prepared to handle them. The professor, Dr. Jeremy Whitaker, spent 10 years working in public health field coming to Wartburg College and is the current president of the Iowa Public Health Association.Contact him with questions. The class will meet 12:30-3:30 p.m. during May Term.

 

WCDM registration day Monday

Wartburg College Dance Marathon Registration Day will be Monday, March 8, all day! Students who register at this link today will receive a $10 off registration code, a registration t-shirt, a WCDM sticker, and if you are one of the first 25 to sign up, you will get a water bottle! ETK Presents: Pinterest Knight To-Go

Join ETK on Tuesday, March 9, at 5:30 p.m. at the tabling location in the student center for a homemade Pinterest To-Go bag filled with all the supplies you need for a preselected craft. Bags are free to students with all of the supplies you need as well as an instruction card included. Choose from one of three bags we have to offer. Stop by the tables after dinner and spend time doing crafts with your friends! Limit one bag per student.

 

Taiko drums on display Thursday

Dr. Craig Hancock, professor of music and director of bands, will host a viewing of his taiko drums and talk about the process of making them during his Fall Term sabbatical on Thursday, March 11, from 12 to 3 p.m. in the lobby of the Bachman Fine Arts Center. Hancock will be available for questions, and the drums will be on their playing racks with music available for anyone who would like to play them. All are welcome to attend.

 

KWAR marathon March 15

The best event of the year is almost here: The KWAR Marathon, with 89 straight hours of live radio! The Marathon starts on Monday, March 15, at 7 a.m. but KWAR social media will be engaging in activities during this week. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay up to date on everything.

 

Fulbright Program Virtual Open House on March 22

Have you considered the challenge and reward of serving as a cultural ambassador abroad? Learn more about this life-changing opportunity at the Fulbright Program Virtual Open House on Monday, March 22, 4-5 p.m. Advance registration required – all details available at this link. SPIRITUAL LIFE & CAMPUS MINISTRY
Weekday Chapel services

All are welcome at Weekday Chapel services from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Wartburg Chapel. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester. Chapel services are streamed live with Knight Vision, so you can watch from anywhere.

Sanctuary on Wednesday nights

Sanctuary on Wednesday night is a holy space in the midst of your busy life where you can recharge and renew. Expect a relaxed time of Bible study, fellowship, worship band music, prayers, and communion. All are welcome! Worship begins in the Chapel sanctuary at 9 p.m., come early at 8:45 for snacks.

Wartburg Chat open forum with Dean Kittle

All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend an open forum with Dean Kittle on Tuesday, March 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. via Zoom at this link. This is an opportunity to touch base with you about various topics including the college’s strategic plan, COVID response, diversity equity and inclusion initiatives, and introduce our public health ambassadors. Dean Kittle is looking forward to your thoughts, ideas, or any concerns that you may have.

Guidelines for upcoming online registration & housing lotteries

Student are reminded Winter Term balances were due by 2/10/21 and May Term balances are due by 3/10/21. Student balances must be at $5,000 or below to participate in online registration and the housing lottery for the 2021-22 academic year. Online registration and housing lotteries will begin in March. Monthly payment plan participants, if you are signed up for our online payment plan and your payments are current, you will be cleared to participate in time for your registration week!

 

Looking for a roommate? Check Facebook group

With the Housing Lottery coming up in the next few weeks, you may be thinking, “How do I find a roommate to add to the group?” The Residential Life team has used a Facebook Group in the past to help people get connected as roommates. If you are looking for a roommate, check out this page. Feel free to post your situation, where you want to live, and how many you want to live with.

WSMTA autism and neurodiversity fundraiser

WSMTA (Wartburg Student Music Therapy Association) is doing a fundraiser for Enlightenment Week by selling masks for $10. All proceeds will go to the American Autism Society. Click here to see the masks and place an order. Enlightenment Week raises awareness for autism and neurodiversity, and WSMTA puts on events throughout the week to help people get a better understanding of what autism and neurodiversity are. Student Senate Executive Team applications available

Student Senate Executive Team appointed positions applications are now available. The positions include Academic Ombudsperson, Administrative Ombudsperson, Executive Assistant for Diversity, and Public Relations Director. Applications can be found on the Student Senate webpage. Art Faculty Exhibition now on display

The 2021 Art Faculty Exhibition features the diverse work and talent of current Wartburg Department of Art faculty and staff:

VAC volunteer opportunities and exec team applications

The Volunteer Action Center is hiring new members for the 2021-22 Executive Team. Applications will be sent out soon! Below are multiple volunteer opportunities. Follow us on social media and contact us at vac@wartburg.edu if you have any questions.

The Northeast Iowa Foodbank is always looking for volunteers to help package food. If you and your friends would like to sign up individually, follow this link. We are planning to take a group of volunteers on Saturday, March 13, with two available times: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1-4 p.m. We will provide transportation if needed. More information will be sent out, along with a sign-up sheet.
The Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly is looking for volunteers to package meals on Thursdays from 4-7 p.m. weekly. We can provide transportation when groups are going, or you can volunteer on your own or with friends.

 

2021-22 German Institute funding opportunity

The German Institute announces the call for applications to support activities/endeavors related to German and/or Germany. For 2021-22, a total of $6,000 is available from external sources. An application is required and funds will be awarded on a competitive basis. Applications are due March 15. Awards will be announced no later than April 12. What to do if you have COVID-19 symptoms

Students who are experiencing symptoms should not engage in any campus activities and should contact Noah Campus Health Clinic immediately at 319-352-8436. Students also should contact Cassie Hales (319-352-8260 or cassie.hales@wartburg.edu) to enact a self-isolation or quarantine protocol (e.g. meal delivery, notification of faculty, and contact tracing). Tests are available at Noah Health Clinic on the first floor of The W.

 

Have you recently tested positive for COVID-19?

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 since returning home for the winter break, please send a copy of your test results to covidresponse@wartburg.edu. By having this information on file with the college’s contact tracing team, you will not be required to quarantine should you be exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus within 90 days of your test.
