Wartburg’s literary magazine The Castle is back and running! Submissions for Winter 2021 are open. Send short stories (creative nonfiction and fiction), poetry, graphic stories and comics here. You can also read the online version of past publications at the link. Send questions to editor Lindsey Jacobs.
ATTENTION ARTISTS: There is also a cover art competition! Submit any medium and style of your liking and it will have a chance to be the cover of the book. The deadline for all submissions is April 9.

VAC & Lifeserve to host blood drive Feb. 16
|
The Wartburg Volunteer Action Center (VAC) with Lifeserve will host a blood drive on Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Cardinal Commons. Appointments are required at this link. Every blood donor receives a health screening at their donation, finds out their blood type, and will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies to help our state health department understand the virus and identify more convalescent plasma donors.

Brought to you by Entertainment ToKnight (ETK), you can receive a surprise bag of treats and activities to help pass the time for those who are in quarantine or isolation. Let your symptom-checker know you would like one, and an “ETQ” bag will get delivered to your door! These bags are available to those in their dorm room, in isolation houses provided by Wartburg, and those who live off campus in Waverly. If you are interested in receiving an ETQ Kit, please email etk@wartburg.edu or tell your symptom checker.

ETK presents comedic hypnotist Feb. 9

ETK presents Dan Lornitis, comedic hypnotist, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Neumann Auditorium. Dan has been mesmerizing audiences for years with his uniquely entertaining performance, where the audience volunteers are the stars! Dan uses hypnosis to entertain, never to embarrass or humiliate anyone. It’s all good, wholesome, PG-13-style entertainment. Come early to guarantee your seat! Student tax forms mailed this week
|
Student W-2s and 1098-T tax forms will be postmarked and mailed to students’ legal/home/permanent address on file by Monday, Feb. 1. Please allow 7-10 business days for the delivery of these forms.

W-2 forms report taxable wages and taxes withheld for student employees that were employed by Wartburg College during 2020. |

1098-T forms report qualified payments received along with scholarships and grants for students that were enrolled and paid qualifying tuition and related expenses in 2020. |
If these forms are not received in the mail after 7-10 business days, students may request a reprint of these forms by emailing the Business Office at businessoffice@wartburg.edu from their Wartburg email address.

Farewell card reception for Todd Vandenbark

Please join the Vogel Library in wishing Todd Vandenbark well as he leaves Wartburg to become the director of library services at Dayton Memorial Library in Dayton, Washington. The library staff will host a “Comments and Cards” open house for Todd on his last day at Wartburg, Thursday, Feb. 4, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., in Classroom 2 of Vogel Library. All are welcome at Weekday Chapel services from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Wartburg Chapel. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester. Chapel services are streamed live with Knight Vision, so you can watch from anywhere.

If you are isolated/quarantined on campus and would like to partake in virtual communion during in-person Wednesday chapel services, please email Pastor Rebecca by Tuesday at noon. Include your residence building, room number, and indicate if you would prefer wine, grape juice, or gluten-free elements. A student minister will deliver communion elements to you before the Wednesday chapel service. All are welcome to receive communion.

Tips and activities with student Public Health Ambassadors
|
Students in the new Public Health Ambassador program are tasked with encouraging their peers to continue masking and social distancing through outreach events, giveaways and handing out information on current college COVID policies. The team will also offer tips on activity risk levels and mental health support as we continue to navigate the virus during the dreary winter months.

Summer Leadership and Service Summit mentor applications open

Are you looking for a unique and exciting way to grow your leadership skills this summer? Then please consider being a mentor for the LSS (Leadership and Service Summit) from June 20-26, 2021. This will be a fully remote experience.
Mentors will assist high school students in their own leadership development and a community service project that they will design and implement during their senior year.

The group task will be to advocate for Vogel Library by promoting library resources, spaces, and services and seeking student perspectives and voices to ensure Vogel Library is fulfilling the student body's needs. Don’t forget to use the online COVID-19 screening tool
|
All members of the Wartburg community should continue to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, or a new loss of taste or smell. All faculty, staff, and students must answer a short series of COVID-19 screening questions the first time they log in to the InfoCenter each day. Those who don’t regularly use the InfoCenter should still log in daily to complete the evaluation.
Students who are experiencing symptoms should not engage in any campus activities and should contact Noah Campus Health Clinic immediately at 319-352-8436. Students also should contact Cassie Hales (319-352-8260 or cassie.hales@wartburg.edu) to enact a self-isolation or quarantine protocol (e.g. meal delivery, notification of faculty, and contact tracing). Tests are available at Noah Health Clinic on the first floor of The W.

Have you recently tested positive for COVID-19?

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 since returning home for the winter break, please send a copy of your test results to covidresponse@wartburg.edu. By having this information on file with the college’s contact tracing team, you will not be required to quarantine should you be exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus within 90 days of your test.

The Hearthside Project offers faculty and students the unique opportunity to connect outside the formality of the classroom. Students receive their books free of charge. Reading groups consist of one book leader and three students.
