Tips and activities with student Public Health Ambassadors

Students in the new Public Health Ambassador program are tasked with encouraging their peers to continue masking and social distancing through outreach events, giveaways and handing out information on current college COVID policies. The team will also offer tips on activity risk levels and mental health support as we continue to navigate the virus during the dreary winter months.

Take part in these upcoming events:

Thursday, Jan. 28, 5-6:30 p.m., mask decorating outside The Wartburg Store. Students will get free masks and have markers to create their own fun masks.
Thursday, Feb. 11, 5-7 p.m., students are asked to wear their decorated mask and come to Cardinal Commons for free cocoa and donuts.

More information can be found on the Wartburg Public Health Ambassadors Facebook page.

Student ambassadors are: Skylar Cunningham (Journalism & Communication, 4Y), Peyton Emgarten (Psychology, 1Y), Rachel Gavin (Public Health, 1Y) and Kjirsten Zahn (Music Therapy, 2Y). Keep an eye out for them in their Public Health Ambassador tees and beanies!

We may be adding students to the team later in the semester. Students interested should contact jo.dorrance@wartburg.edu.

Weekly Faculty-in-Residence activities: Connect and restore

Dr. Rachel Clark, associate professor of English and the faculty-in-residence, invites students to the following activities, which are intended to provide windows of relaxation to help balance busy lives.

Stitch-and-B*tch: Mondays, 7-8 p.m., open to students, faculty and staff. Knitters, crocheters, embroiderers—anyone who does any kind of stitching—is welcome to pop in virtually for a relaxing hour to work on your current projects and get to know other crafters on campus. Click here for Zoom link.
Reading Club: Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Join the Zoom for some peaceful music while you read something for fun, plus a few minutes of chat at the beginning and end to share progress, book recommendations, and more. Click here for Zoom link.
Sunday Storytime: This semester, Sunday Storytime is becoming a podcast, so that anyone can listen at their convenience. This term’s book is Oscar Wilde’s controversial Gothic novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” a book about the nature of art, beauty, and evil—and, of course, secret magical paintings hidden in attics. Watch for the first episode soon!

Don’t forget to use the online COVID-19 screening tool

All members of the Wartburg community should continue to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, or a new loss of taste or smell. All faculty, staff, and students must answer a short series of COVID-19 screening questions the first time they log in to the InfoCenter each day. Those who don’t regularly use the InfoCenter should still log in daily to complete the evaluation. If you do not have access to a computer or smart phone, please contact your supervisor. Employees who are experiencing symptoms should not engage in any campus activities and should stay home, call their primary health care provider, and notify their supervisor of their absence. The employee or their supervisor should contact Ryan Callahan and Jamie Hollaway to begin the contact tracing process immediately.

Have you recently tested positive for COVID-19?

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 since returning to the office from the break or working at home, please send a copy of your test results to covidresponse@wartburg.edu. By having this information on file with the college’s contact tracing team, you will not be required to quarantine should you be exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus within 90 days of your test.

Chalk & Wire resources

Wartburg is using the cloud-based assessment management system called Chalk & Wire, which we use to evaluate student learning outcomes. The system also provides students with access to ePortfolios, which can used to collect a wide variety of information and media for later use by the studetns as they move forward after graduation. The 2020-21 academic year marks the second year of the implementation process.

If you need help at any time, please use chalk.wire@wartburg.edu to contact the Chalk & Wire Implementation Team for assistance. The use of this email account will ensure they can respond in a timely manner to your request. Chalk & Wire resources for faculty and students are available on the Resources tab of My.Wartburg. Users must be logged in to access the page.

Wartburg shifts focus – update on Homecoming Coronation

Over the past year, the Wartburg College Alumni Office has taken the opportunity to reflect on events presented to the student body each Fall Term during Homecoming & Family Weekend. With the support of Student Life, Student Homecoming leadership and Student Senate Executive Team, the alumni office will discontinue Homecoming Coronation at Wartburg College. As current students, you are beginning a new era of representation at Wartburg that reflects the mission and values of the college. There are many opportunities to nominate your peers for recognition throughout the year based on our pillars of leadership, service, faith and learning. It is our hope that you take advantage of award nominations throughout the year, such as the St. Elizabeth Awards for Service and Leadership & Service Awards. Thank you for your understanding as we work to serve all students at Wartburg. If you have questions, please email the Alumni Office at alumni@wartburg.edu.
