Professional photos need an update?

If you signed up to get your professional photo taken today, don't forget! Refer to your instructions from Julie Drewes. Faculty and staff who are new to Wartburg, or who just want to update their college headshot, should contact Julie Drewes, visual media manager, about getting a portrait taken (appointments are required). Contact her by noon today to take photos this afternoon.

 

Meal delivery for quarantined and isolated students

We're putting out the call again for "Knights of Service": Can you volunteer to help deliver meals to students who are in quarantine and isolation? Volunteers needed daily (starting Monday) from 11:55 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Click here to sign up. Meet members of Campus Security at the Mail Center near the Den in the Student Center by 11:55 a.m. Depending on volume of meals, times might change slightly. Please be patient and understanding. Masks are required; no-contact delivery. We might even cancel your shift via email if you are not needed. If you don't see anyone when you report for your shift, please call Security at 319-352-9999.

 

Library updates hours for Winter Term

Due to lower usage rates during the pandemic, Vogel Library's regular hours are adjusting at the start of Winter Term to better schedule staff to meet current needs. Beginning Sunday, Jan. 17, library hours will be the following until further notice:

Sunday: 1-10:30 p.m.
Monday-Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 1-5 p.m.

MLK Day details for Jan. 18

Monday, Jan. 18, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Wartburg alters the class schedule on this federal holiday to free students and faculty to participate in afternoon activities (see below). Class periods one through six will meet for 50 minutes with a 10-minute break between each. Weekday Chapel will not be held. Evening classes will meet at their regularly scheduled time.

 

Class schedule for Monday
• Period 1 (regularly starting at 7:45 a.m.) will be 7:45-8:35 a.m.
• Period 2 (9 a.m.) will be 8:45-9:35 a.m.
• Period 3 (10:45 a.m.) will be 9:45-10:35 a.m.
• Period 4 (noon) will be 10:45-11:35 a.m.
• Period 5 (1:15 p.m.) will be 11:45 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.
• Period 6 (2:30 p.m.) will be 12:45-1:35 p.m.

 

Activities for Monday

Dining & food pantry hours

St. Elizabeth Bread Basket, the on-campus food pantry in the Student Life office, is available for all students, free of charge, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Friday. Contact Jennifer Onuigbo with questions. Click here to see the hours for the Dining Services locations during break. Mensa opens for the evening meal on Sunday, Jan. 17.

 

Have you recently tested positive for COVID-19?

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 since returning home for the winter break, please send a copy of your test results to covidresponse@wartburg.edu. By having this information on file with the college’s contact tracing team, you will not be required to quarantine should you be exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus within 90 days of your test.

CONDOLENCES

The Wartburg community extends its condolences to the colleagues and friends of former security officer Van Moreau, who died Dec. 29 in Waterloo at age 62. Van was a security officer at Wartburg from August 2016 until November 2019. No services are planned at this time. Please click here to view the obituary.

Meet author at book club meeting Jan. 28

Join the Wartburg College Book Club for a virtual conversation with Chris Stedman, author of “IRL: Finding Realness, Meaning, and Belonging in Our Digital Lives,” on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. CST. This meeting will be hosted via Zoom and provides a space to ask Stedman questions about his research into how we can understand what it means to be “real” in both digital and physical spaces today. Faculty/Staff Giving raffle winner

Congratulations to Kathleen Sihler, winner of the Faculty/Staff Giving raffle for eight hours of PTO! New exhibit in art gallery

In the new exhibit "Dictators and Dreamers," artists Jennifer Lynn Bates and Lindsay Buehler contrast the faces of current or recent absolute rulers of countries around the world with the faces of immigrants, refugees, international students, and asylum seekers now residing in the Cedar Valley.
"Dictators and Dreamers" will be on display at the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery, on the first floor of Bachman Fine Arts Center, through Feb. 21. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. daily, and admission is free. Patrons are required to wear masks in the gallery and practice physical distancing. Click here for gallery details.
 
 
PROFESSIONAL NEWS

Dr. Zak Montgomery, associate professor of Spanish and Slife Professor in Humanities, published the article "A New Iberian Social Critique: Clarín's Reception of Guilherme de Azevedo's Revolutionary crónicas" in a special Portuguese issue of Hispania, the journal of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish & Portuguese (AATSP), in December 2020 (volume 103, number 4).

 

Dr. Kunihiko Terasawa, associate professor of religion, became a moderator of Buddhist-Christian dialogue in the Interfaith Coalition Conference for Global Citizenship 2020, “Religious Peace Movement in the Post COVID-19 Era: Global Ethics, Global Citizenship, and Sustainable Peace,” held Dec. 5-6.
