Study Away Photo Contest voting

Students, faculty and staff are invited to vote for their favorite entry in the Study Away Photo Contest! Almost 100 students had a study away experience last year before COVID disruption. Check out the entries displayed on the second floor of Luther Hall, then vote at www.wartburg.edu/photo-vote. Voting ends Oct. 26, and the winners earn cash prizes! One vote per person. There is also a People’s Choice contest on the Wartburg Facebook page this week, so vote for your favorite there, too. Contact Kathleen Sihler for details. Winners will be announced in November.

Satellite voting on campus Thursday

There are several opportunities to vote early in the upcoming election.

For those who wish to vote on campus, satellite voting will take place Thursday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in McCaskey Lyceum on the first floor of the Saemann Student Center.
Early voting is also now open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 124 Second St. NE (two blocks west of the courthouse) in Waverly.

A guide is available at this link for additional information on voter registration and voting options for Wartburg students: https://www.wartburg.edu/vote/

Contact Kristin Teig Torres with questions.

Student work hours, terms of employment

Student employees may only work for Wartburg for a maximum of 20 hours per week while classes are in session. This is a federal regulation for international students and a Wartburg policy for domestic students that seeks to ensure the priority of our students’ academic work. Opportunities for student employees to work remotely continue to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Student Employment Office, though approval likely will be very rare. No student-worker employed at Wartburg College should be working remotely unless they have that approval in writing from the Student Employment Office. Only student employees living in the state of Iowa will be allowed to work remotely. When a student is approved to work remotely, the work hours and transfer sets of students working remotely must be manually entered into Kronos weekly by their supervisor.

Wind Ensemble concert Sunday

The Wartburg College Wind Ensemble will host its first concert of the season Sunday, Oct. 18, at 3:30 p.m. Due to COVID-19, the performance will only be available on Knight Vision, Wartburg’s live streaming network. Leon Kuehner, a retired high school band director from Hampton, will be directing the band while Craig Hancock, director of bands and professor of music, is on sabbatical. Click here for the concert program PDF.

PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Health insurance plan update for 2021

Each year at this time, the college receives its health insurance renewal for the upcoming year, and we carefully work through the renewal to determine what changes, if any, should be made. This can be a challenging process as we work through plan design, rates, networks, and carriers. Our renewal with HealthPartners stands at a 10% increase in premiums for 2021. You can click here to learn what that means for your rates and learn more about why this increase was passed along to the college. Please watch for more information regarding open enrollment meetings and how to enroll through our online portal, Employee Navigator. If you have questions after looking through these additional documents, please contact Amy Wilson, benefits administrator, at 319-352-8278 or amy.wilson@wartburg.edu.

Reviving Wartburg Weird series

As faculty-in-residence, Dr. Rachel Clark is reviving the Wartburg Weird series, in which faculty and staff who have expertise in the weird and wonderful (whether research or a hobby) can share this with students. Wartburg Weird events will take place via Zoom this year. Please email rachel.clark@wartburg.edu if you are interested in participating.

Change to classroom cleaning process

Starting Wednesday, Oct. 7, there will be a change in the supplies and process for disinfecting classrooms between classes. In each classroom, you will find a closed bucket (see photo) that holds 250 disposable wipes pre-moistened with disinfectant. The process will be as follows:

1. Open flap at the top of the bucket
2. Remove one pre-moistened disposable cleaning cloth
3. Close top of the bucket
4. Wipe off desired surface
5. Put used cleaning cloth in provided open-top bucket.

When bucket is empty, the cleaning staff will replace with another container. Please do not discard buckets, as they will be cleaned and reused.

Please contact Keith Strand with questions.
