Welcome to The Juice, Wartburg's official weekly e-newsletter full of campus news and events. Look for The Juice on Monday mornings in your Wartburg email inbox and occasionally during the week for important campus announcements. Students, faculty and staff may submit items to be included; the deadline is 4 p.m. each Thursday. Click here to see our email policies and what kind of items are included. Move-in info for returning students • Returning students: Please check in at the Student Life Office in Saemann Student Center on Monday, Sept. 2, or Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. • If you need to arrive prior to Sept. 2, please email cassie.hales@wartburg.edu to get on the early arrival list. The cost is $25 a day, unless a student lives more than 500 miles from campus. • New students: Please follow the directions sent from your Orientation leader. Board plan details for Fall Term • To see Dining Services hours for Aug. 15-25 for students returning early, click here. • Click here to see Dining hours for Aug. 26-Sept. 3, the week leading up to and including Opening Weekend. (This includes new students, who move in Aug. 31; new students begin their board plans with the evening meal on Saturday, Aug. 31.) • Fall Term board plans and Points begin at breakfast on Tuesday, Sept. 3. • GET meal transfers begin on Thursday, Sept. 5. • All off-campus students who want to be on a board plan must stop in to the Dining Office in Saemann Student Center to fill out a form at the start of each term if wish to be on a board plan. • Dining Services asks that you verify that you are on the correct board plan once the Fall Term board plans begin. Reminders will be posted. All changes to board plans must be made before 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12. • Please contact Shelly Geweke with questions. NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS Wartburg at the Iowa State Fair on Aug. 14 It's Iowa State Fair time, and we know you love seeing "the finest in the east or west" there! Wartburg and the city of Waverly will be at the state fair in Des Moines on Wednesday, Aug. 14. You'll find our booth with a Wartburg representative in the Varied Industries Building from 3 to 9 p.m. that day. Stop by to say hi and pick up some Wartburg swag! If you're at the fair Sunday, Aug. 18, stop by the Grand Concourse to see a Wartburg classroom aquaponics project as part of STEM Day. Student Senate will host a tailgate from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, on the Campus Lawn. We will be firing up the grills and providing burgers, veggie burgers and chips prior to the 7 p.m. football kickoff against Monmouth College. All Wartburg students are welcome. Go Knights! The 30-second spot will be seen on digital platforms and television soon. New interlibrary loan system Wartburg's interlibrary loan system has migrating to a new software platform called Tipasa over the summer. The process of making interlibrary loan (ILL) requests for books and articles will be greatly streamlined by this change – you simply log in with your Wartburg username and password. All currently active requests will migrate over to the new platform, but electronically delivered articles and past request history cannot be migrated. You will be able to access your ILLiad account for 30 days after the migration is complete under the Library Links section of Tipasa’s user portal, but all new requests now will need to be submitted through the new system. You can also use this portal to customize your communication preferences for ILL – including notifications via text message. Juice publishing schedule for summer The Juice will publish intermittently through the summer as needed. Weekly Juice emails will begin again Monday, Aug. 26, just before the start of Fall Term. If you have items that need to be sent through the Juice, send an email to Juice@wartburg.edu. For items that need to be sent immediately, contact stephanie.boeding@wartburg.edu (the Juice email inbox is not monitored throughout the day). Jenny Kordick ’10 was named the first full-time executive director for Maine Outdoor Brands, a trade group that advocates for the state's outdoor recreation industry, as reported by Maine Biz. Fikiswayinkhosi Nkambule ’21 was featured as the up and coming artist in the Swazi Observer for his continued passion for percussion. Dr. Fred Waldstein ’74 weighed in on political trackers for a story in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier. Victor, a service dog named in honor of the college's official mascot, Sir Victor, graduated from in-training to a full-fledged service dog on June 29, as reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier. Victor was trained by alums Les ’87 and Marit Scherer ’88 Beisner and their twin sons Noah ’20 and Luke ’20. Logan Merley ’20 is directing the Sheldon High School Summer Theatre's production of "Murder, Ahoy!", as reported by The N'West Iowa Review. The Wartburg Board of Regents approved naming the new strength and conditioning annex in honor of the late Dar Meyer '61, a former wrestler. The $3.7 million renovation and construction project will include a new Health and Human Performance Center where the Canfield Athletic Weight Room currently sits inside the The W. The athletic weight room will move into the new annex, which will be constructed on the south side of The W. Wartburg students Becca Montgomery '22, Sadie Short '21, and Sidney Baumgartner '22 took second place at the Land O'Lakes Global Food Challenge, as reported by Waverly Newspapers. Their proposal to create a classroom aquaponics project was completed with assistance and technical support from Josh Voigt '20 and Kaylin Muggler '21. Suzanne Heseman Behnke ’97 was chosen as the IowaWatch executive director, as reported by IowaWatch, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, the Iowa City Press Citizen, and the Cedar Rapids Gazette. Steve Timm ’90, a leader in avionics at Collins Aerospace, talked about the future of the industry with the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
