Audition for ETK showcase
|
ETK will present a May Term Festival from 3 to 6 p.m. May 18 in Kohlmann Park. All performers, from singing, playing an instrument, to dancing, are invited to audition from 7 to 9 p.m. April 3 and 4, with location to be determined. All performers will audition with one song, though you can perform more than one song at the festival. The ETK team will send out results of the auditions April 8. For 2024-25, a total of $7,000 is available to support activities/endeavors related to Germany and the German language. Applications for the full $7,000 will likely not be supported in full. Awards will be announced no later than April 12. This funding has previously supported enrichments to May Term trips, the German film festival, and student travel for study abroad and internships (but not individuals for May Term).

MaTina Clark, assistant registrar for transfer and articulation processes, and Dr. Dan Walther, history department chair and Gerald R. Kleinfeld Endowed Chair in German History, presented as part of a practitioner panel at the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students annual conference, which took place Feb. 21-23 in St. Louis. Their portion of the presentation was entitled "Roadmap to Transfer Pathways," which detailed their work on the steering committee of the Iowa Private Transfer Collaborative. The focus of the IPTC is to support vertical transfer students from Iowa community colleges to Iowa private institutions by creating transfer pathways in selected academic areas.

Applications open for May Term senators
|
Students may now apply for May Term Student Senate seats. These senators are responsible for attending three meetings during May Term to plan and execute Burgapalooza, discuss Outfly, plan items for Senate for the 2024-25 academic school year, and discuss other issues that might arise. Applications are due at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, with a mandatory elections meeting to follow at 4:30 p.m. that same day.

A team of three students from the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics participated in the Iowa Collegiate Mathematics Competition at Luther College on Feb. 24. Paul Zelle, Joseph Skinner, and Parker Sperfslage placed fourth out of 17 teams in the competition. |

Dr. Kuni Terasawa, associate professor of religion, recently gave two presentations at Fu Jen Catholic University in Taipei, Taiwan. One was on interreligious dialogue and transnational solidarity of religions as resistance to ultranationalist populism in East Asia and the Pacific region, including the U.S., and the other was on the philosophical dialogue between Zen Buddhism and Christianity of Nishida Kitaro. Terasawa also visited Taiwan Lutheran Seminary and spoke with its president, faculty, and students about a possible exchange program with Wartburg College and Wartburg Seminary.
