Wartburg will have shortened classes Monday, Jan. 15, to allow students, faculty, and staff to participate in community service in the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Space is limited. Online registration is required.

Opening Event
McCaskey Lyceum, Saemann Student Center
The entire campus community is encouraged to participate in the opening event and an afternoon activity.

Service in the Community
Various sites across Waverly and the Cedar Valley
Please wear comfortable clothes. Transportation will be coordinated.

On-Campus Service Projects
Chapel Commons
We will use donated T-shirts to make dog ropes for a local animal shelter and reusable tote bags for a homeless shelter. We also will pack toiletry bags for local charities.

Poverty Simulation
hosted by the Department of Social Work, Knights Ballroom
Understand poverty through an experiential setting. Participants take on the identity of a person living in poverty for four 15-minute weeks. Please note registration for this event is full.
2-4 PM
Knight Games
The W
Local students in fifth through eighth grades are invited join members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to play games like basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and more in the fieldhouse or head upstairs to a classroom for board-game fun.
2-4 PM
Story and Movie Time
Vogel Library
Dance Marathon leaders will read stories and have movies available for kids of all ages. Supervision is required.

Shortened Class Schedule
• Period 1 (regularly starting at 7:45 a.m.) will be 7:45-8:35 a.m.
• Period 2 (9 a.m.) will be 8:45-9:35 a.m.
• Period 3 (10:45 a.m.) will be 9:45-10:35 a.m.
• Period 4 (noon) will be 10:45-11:35 a.m.
• Period 5 (1:15 p.m.) will be 11:45 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.
• Period 6 (2:30 p.m.) will be 12:45-1:35 p.m.
No Chapel will be held. Evening classes will meet as usual.
Don't forget about MLK Jr. Day Chapel on Wednesday, Jan. 17!

Winter Break Service Trips
The deadline for applications for Winter Break service trips has been extended to midnight Monday, Jan. 15. Volunteers will assist the communities of Denver, Colo.; Washington, D.C.; Albuquerque, N.M.; and Oaks, Okla.
