Football rolls on to national semifinal

The Wartburg football team notched its first-ever win over UW-Whitewater 31-28 on Saturday to advance to the semifinal round of the NCAA championship. Wartburg will once again host, facing off against defending national champion North Central at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Walston-Hoover Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN+.

Volunteer applications open for Waverly Health Center
|
Applications to participate in the Waverly Health Center Volunteer Program during Winter Term are now being accepted. This is a great way to build your resume toward applying to graduate school in the medical fields. Please visit Student Life (across from the Den) to sign up and receive the volunteer packet. Julie Drewes, visual media manager, will take new or updated headshots of faculty and staff from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 16. There are still a few slots available; you can claim one of them by emailing julie.drewes@wartburg.edu. No walk-ins will be accepted due to the number of signups.

Increase in vandalism, thefts reported
|
Wartburg Security has noticed an uptick in vandalism and thefts around campus, especially involving parked cars. Please be respectful of our community property as well as that of others, and remember to lock your car doors to prevent crimes of opportunity. If you see suspicious activity or have something to report, call Security at 319-352-9999.

Mail Center announces hours through Christmas break

The Mail Center will operate the following hours over the holidays:

Normal hours will resume Jan. 8. Mail and packages will not be forwarded over the holiday break. Students and staff may receive some package notifications during closure, but all packages will be held until classes resume. Christmas Fairy Tales: ‘Hansel and Gretel’

Gingerbread houses will fill the stage as the Wartburg Community Symphony and the Wartburg Opera Workshop present “Hansel and Gretel,” a fairy-tale opera first performed at Christmastime in Weimar, Germany. This will mark the 130th anniversary of the work’s debut. The cast and orchestra will be joined by students from St. Paul's Lutheran Church & School. A preconcert talk will begin at 1 p.m.

He presented twice, including the poster "A jigsaw and role-play-based open educational resource over COVID-19 tests increases student understanding of antigens, antibodies, and viral testing" and the microbrew "A Concept Map and Case Study Driven Introductory Immunology Class." He also participated in a workshop about improving inclusivity in STEM education the day before the conference. |

Owen Grover has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the Gagliardi Trophy, which is given to the most outstanding football player in all of NCAA Division III. An online fan poll that counts toward the final award is happening, and you can vote for Grover once per device. The finalists for the Gagliardi will be announced Dec. 7, with the winner named on Dec. 15.

Wartburg-Waverly Festival of Trees begins Nov. 29
|
The holiday display in the CTC first-floor hallway, open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily from Nov. 29 to Dec. 12, combines the efforts of the college and the community with 30 Christmas trees and a cottage decorated by academic departments, offices, and student organizations at Wartburg, as well as community businesses and nonprofits. This year, the Waverly Public Library will bring its Tales Around Town storytelling group to the festival at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, where they will read stories and lead songs and rhymes.

Wartburg Store changes policy on charging supplies
|
Previously during the start of Fall, Winter, and May terms, students were able to charge educational supplies purchased in the Wartburg Store to their student accounts. This option has been discontinued. Students will now need to pay with cash, debit/credit card, or an All Campus Spending Account. If a student uses their ACSA for purchases, they will receive a 10% discount. Please note this change does not affect textbooks and course materials.

Late Knight Study Breakfast is scheduled from 10-11 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in Mensa, and all faculty and staff are invited to help serve our students a delicious breakfast.
