Christmas with Wartburg ticket sales begin Wednesday

Tickets for Christmas with Wartburg 2023, Emmanuel: God with Us, go on sale on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Performances are:

 

7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, Lutheran Church of Hope, West Des Moines.
3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, Neumann Auditorium.
7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, Neumann Auditorium.
3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, Neumann Auditorium.

 

A reception is planned for 6 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Lutheran Church of Hope, and a public buffet will be available at 5 p.m. Dec. 2-3 in the Knights Ballroom. Tickets are available separately for these meal options. Reception and buffet guests will hear from Dr. Lee Nelson, the Christmas with Wartburg artistic director, and guest speakers.

Faculty, staff invited to CWW filming

Employees are welcome to attend the filming of Christmas with Wartburg at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, in Neumann Auditorium. This is invitation-only and not open to the public. No tickets are needed; please bring your Wartburg ID to the door. Please be courteous audience members during the taping!

Christmas with Wartburg ushers needed

Eight to 10 ushers are needed for each Waverly performance of Christmas with Wartburg. Volunteers will receive a complimentary ticket to the performance they work. Sarah Bouska will reach out to finalize scheduling around Nov. 14.

English-language STEM internships available in Germany

The RISE Germany summer internship program is available for students in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, and engineering to work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany for three months. RISE Germany interns are matched with English-speaking doctoral students whom they assist and who serve as their mentors. All scholarship holders receive stipends to help cover living expenses, while partner universities and research institutes provide housing assistance. Further assistance might be available from the Wartburg College German Institute. Applications are open now and due by Nov. 30. Contact Dr. Daniel Walther with questions.

Grover named finalist for Campbell Trophy

Owen Grover was named a finalist for the National Football Foundation's 2023 William V. Campbell Trophy, college football’s premier scholar-athlete award that annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance, and exemplary leadership. Grover, the first finalist from Wartburg, will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. The winner will be named Dec. 5 in Las Vegas.

German study opportunity available

The Fee University Berlin European Studies Program is an intensive semesterlong program that introduces participants to Berlin, Germany, and Europe. No prior German language knowledge is required; intensive language instruction will be offered along with courses in cultural studies, art history, comparative literature, the European Union, German history, German and European politics, sociology/psychology, film studies, legal studies, architecture, environmental studies, transatlantic relations, business, music history, and philosophy. Past participants in this program have received funding through the German Institute. She'll discuss her summer spent learning about the field of biostatistics in her presentation, "Iowa Summer Institute in Biostatistics: A Statistically Significant Summer." Nominations sought for service awards

The Pastor Larry Trachte Award for Service recognizes one or more staff or faculty members who embody Pastor Trachte's enthusiasm, support, involvement, dedication, and overall commitment to Wartburg's mission of service. Nominate staff and faculty that you believe deserve the Trachte Award before the Nov. 6 deadline.

The St. Elizabeth Award for Service recognizes members of the Wartburg community that have exemplified a commitment to service. Nominate students that you believe deserve the St. Elizabeth Award before the Nov. 6 deadline.

Additional classes added for 2023-24

Three classes have been added for this academic year: RE310 Living with Death for Winter Term and RE 343 Religions of Japan and RE102 The Bible in a Diverse World for May Term. If interested, speak to your adviser.

Account balances must be paid to stay registered

Student account balances, which were due Sept. 10 for Fall Term, must be less than $1,000 to remain registered for Winter/May term classes. Students will receive details in their Wartburg email if their balance is over $1,000. Students can view their account balance on My.Wartburg under the Finances tab. The Business Office and Financial Aid Office are available to assist with questions relating to aid, loan, payment options, and account balances in person, via email, or over the phone at 319-352-8411 or 319-352-8262.

Dance Marathon seeks food donations

Wartburg College Dance Marathon needs snack and drink donations for its upcoming push day. Sign up for items online – the kids, families, and change-makers greatly appreciate any and all donations.

Meetings set on open enrollment for 2024

Annual open enrollment is right around the corner! This is your opportunity to adjust your benefits for the new year. Informational meetings will be:

The online portal, Employee Navigator, will open Nov. 1. The deadline for benefit elections is Nov. 15. See plans and rates for 2024.

Donations sought for PTO bank

The PTO bank for employees is running low, and donations of time would be appreciated. The PTO is available upon request for qualifying employees who have missed work for more than five consecutive days and have exhausted their own PTO. This benefit can help bridge the gap to short-term disability. All donations are anonymous and cannot be designated to a specific employee.

Achievements and accomplishments

Raine Terrill, senior manager of board plan dining and production, was published in the Fall 2023 edition of Campus Dining Today, a publication of the National Association of College & University Food Services. His article “Global flavors find a home in a small Iowa college” highlights the International Flavor Station, which was added recently to enhance the Mensa dining experience.
