Men's bowling team seeks additional members

The men's bowling program is looking for additional bowlers for the 2023-24 season. Practices are held Tuesday through Thursday at the Waverly Bowl Inn, and there are 10 competition events from October to February, with the postseason beginning in March. Anyone interested can attend a meeting at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, in room 2007 at The W. Email head coach Alexis Runk with questions.

Fall service trip destinations set

Sign up for a Fall Break service trip to Minneapolis, Chicago, or the Lake of the Ozarks from Oct. 25-29. Cost is $100. Service trips are a great opportunity to create new connections and make the memories of a lifetime.

HOMECOMING & FAMILY WEEKEND 2023

Register now for Oktoberfest meal

Did you know that you can use one of your meal swipes to get into Oktoberfest? Register to use a meal swipe at Oktoberfest before the deadline of Thursday, Sept. 28. If you have any questions, email Jenna Wiebenga.

Get pumped for Pep Rally

Mark your calendars! Pep Rally is going to be from noon to 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in Levick Arena. This is a time where students, staff, and faculty come together to get excited about Homecoming & Family Weekend with music, games, school announcements, and prizes.

Win prizes in window contest

Participate in the Homecoming & Family Weekend window-decorating contest! Students will decorate their dorm windows and student organizations will be assigned an area around campus. There will be prizes for first-, second-, and third-place winners. Signup closes at 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25.

Weekly meditation sessions begin

Join Spiritual Life for 10-15 minutes of guided meditation at 11:30 a.m. each Thursday. Meditation will meet in the Chapel garden, weather allowing, or the Lily Reflection Room in the Student Center. All traditions and worldviews are welcome.

Students: Address your packages, mail properly

The Mail Center would like to remind students that all mail addressed to students on campus should use the following format:

USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL will not deliver directly to residence halls. Packages addressed to residence halls will still be processed through the Mail Center. Items addressed with only a first name will be held in the Mail Center until the correct recipient can be identified.

Faculty, staff needed for Outfly breakfast

Faculty and staff are invited to help serve breakfast to students on Outfly morning. Volunteers need to report to Mensa by 6:50 a.m. that morning. Campus is notified of Outfly via the Wartburg Alert System during the early hours of Outfly morning, whenever that may be. Sign up to be a breakfast server by contacting Chris Fosselman via email or at 319-352-8303.

Intramural flag football registration opens

Flag football intramural signups are now open. Find some friends and make a team! Games will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. starting Tuesday, Sept. 26. Email Belle at annabella.dietrich@wartburg.edu with questions.

PRSSA meetings to cover business topics

The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is a personal development club that has a different guest speaker every week covering topics such as their business, PR, marketing, and advertising. It is a great way to network and figure out internships or potential jobs after graduation. Meetings are from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday in McElroy Center 225 and are open to students of any major. Contact Isabella DeVenuto for more information.

Dance Marathon seeks supply donations

Wartburg College Dance Marathon provides food, snacks, and drinks at many of its events throughout the year, including the organization’s big event in the spring. The 2023 Study Away Photo Contest is now open! Pet blessing planned during Chapel

Join Spiritual Life & Campus Ministry for a special pet blessing in place of our traditional Chapel service at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, outside the Chapel (rain location: Chapel Commons). If you are unable to bring your pet to campus, submit a photo of your pet and it will be printed out for the blessing. After the service, the skywalk hallway will be decorated, and the first 40 attendees will receive a custom pet bandanna.

First-years: Get your class mugs
If you’re a first-year who didn't pick up your class mug during Move-In Weekend, stop by the Alumni & Parent Engagement Office this week to grab yours! The office is in Luther Hall 136; go past the fountain being built and enter on the bottom-floor door into Luther Hall.
Promote your organization, events with table tents
Table tents are available in Mensa, the Konditorei, the Zesty Orange, and the Den for campus groups who wish to promote their organizations or events. Contact Chris Fosselman in Dining Services at 319-352-8303 prior to the event to reserve space on a first-come, first-served basis. Flyers must be the correct size (4 inches wide by 8 inches tall) or they will not be posted. A total of 100 one-sided flyers are needed to fill all dining locations. Table tents are put out on Mondays and Thursdays and will be posted Monday through Wednesday or Thursday through Sunday. Free-laying flyers are not allowed and will be immediately removed.

‘Thomas Payne: Photographs’ opens in gallery

“Thomas Payne: Photographs” will be displayed in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery now through Oct. 22. The exhibit features more than 50 photographs by Thomas Payne, professor emeritus of art, and covers a variety of subject matters.


A reception and gallery talk will be held during Wartburg’s Homecoming & Family Weekend at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

International travel scholarship available for Pell Grant recipients

Pell Grant recipients can apply for a Gilman International Scholarship of up to $5,000 for international May Term courses or study abroad. The application deadline for May Term 2024 is Oct. 5. Talk now with Study Away Coordinator Kathleen Sihler by emailing kathleen.sihler@wartburg.edu or stopping by WBC 118.

Achievements and accomplishments
Dr. Kuni Terasawa, associate professor of religion, presented "Reconciliation Between Korea and Japan Through Interreligious/Transnational Dialogue of Buddhism and Christianity" as a keynote speaker at the World Conference of the International Association for Religious Freedom on Sept. 5. On Aug. 22, he was a moderator of a panel discussion, "The Age of Uneasy Peace for Global Citizenship and the Path to Peace," at the Interfaith Coalition Conference for Global Citizenship, Seoul, South Korea.
