Dining hours change for holiday break

Dining locations on campus will have altered hours on Wednesday, Nov. 23, due to Thanksgiving Break:

All dining locations will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25. The Zesty Orange will resume normal hours Saturday, Nov. 26, and the Mensa will reopen as usual for dinner Sunday, Nov. 27. The Den and Konditorei will reopen Monday, Nov. 28.

Football, cross country teams post big results
|
Wartburg's football team defeated UW-La Crosse in the first round of the NCAA playoffs this weekend and will advance to the second round. The Knights will take on Saint John's University at noon Saturday in Collegeville, Minn. Best of luck to the team!
The men's cross country team took second place at the NCAA Championships, the team's highest-ever finish, while the women's team placed third. Christopher Collet, Jacob Green, Connor Lancial, Aubrie Fisher, Lexi Brown, Ellie Meyer, and Shaelyn Hostager were named All-American, which is a record number for both programs. Congrats!

Federal Reserve official to speak via Zoom
|
Dr. William R. Emmons of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis will present "How Will Inflation End? Three Scenarios" at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, via Zoom. Emmons, lead economist in the Division of Supervision, Credit and Learning, will address the Fed's current policy dilemma: fighting inflation vs. falling into a recession. The presentation is part of the James Leach Chair Public Lecture Series by the Department of Business Administration. |

The conference and workshop for senior administrators had the theme "Implicit Racial Bias and the Academy" and was held Oct. 27-30 at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. |

IINspire sent two students and an alumnus to the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists conference in Anaheim, Calif., from Nov. 10-12. Carrington Bush, a fifth-year neuroscience, psychology, and history major, presented a poster titled "Effects of Induced Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries on Working and Spatial Memory in Mice," a research project she conducted last year with Caylee Garcia '22, Grace Roseen '22, Missy Shockley '22, and Dr. Eric Emmons, professor of biology. Joseline Robles Rosales, a fifth-year neuroscience and Spanish major, presented a poster titled "Effect of Maternal Parity on Cognition of Mus Musculus Pups," a project she completed last year with Autumn Derifield '22, Spencer Dodgen '22, and Dr. Samantha Larimer Bousquet, professor of biology. Jaylen McBride ’22, area coordinator for Manors, Knights Village, and The Residence, attended the conference as a Wartburg IINspire Leadership Team representative. Travel was supported by IINspire. |

Symphony, gallery hold joint art competition
|
The Wartburg Community Symphony and the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery have paired up to host an art competition in honor of the symphony’s 70th anniversary. All artists in high school and beyond are encouraged to submit a group of four artworks inspired by the birds in Ottorino Respighi’s orchestral suite “The Birds.” The four featured birds are the dove, the hen, the nightingale, and the cuckoo.
Winners will receive a cash prize and have their artwork projected during the symphony’s “Music Takes Flight” concert in February. Submissions are due to Wartburg’s Music Office on Dec. 12-13. Students needing summer housing will live in Founders Hall. The rates for each 5-week summer session: single housing, $1,200; double, $800; triple, $750; and quad, $700. Double these prices if attending both summer sessions. All rates include a 25 Any Meal Plan.

The Department of Social Work and the Waverly-Shell Rock United Way have partnered to put on Holiday Shoppe 2022. Holiday Shoppe allows local families who are in need to pick out gifts for children in their household. Holiday Shoppe Christmas trees are set up around campus with tags suggesting gifts for children. Pick one up today and bring back the presents by Monday, Nov. 28. You may also donate cash online. Info session set for Davis Projects for Peace
|
An informational session for the 2023 Davis Projects for Peace applications will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in the Hub for undergraduate students who want to apply. The Davis Projects for Peace organization will provide support for grassroots projects across the globe in summer 2023 that promote peace and address the root causes of conflict. One project from Wartburg that is creative, engaging, meaningful, measurable, and sustainable is eligible to receive a $10,000 award. At this session, you can learn more about the requirements for applications, which are due Jan. 11.

Arts & Crafts Night rescheduled for Dec. 7
|
|
The Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery has moved its Arts & Crafts Night to 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7. Everyone is invited to stop by and enjoy a stress-free night of drawing and painting with friends. An optional competition will also be held; a theme will be chosen at the beginning of the night, and participants will create an artwork or craft that fits it. The winner will be selected by the votes of attendees. Supplies will be available, but you are also welcome to bring your own. The entrance to the gallery is in the main lobby of the Bachman Fine Arts Center.

Financial Aid, Business offices install drop box
|
The Financial Aid and Business offices have installed a secure drop box outside the office’s main entrance, Luther Hall 212, for your convenience. Students, faculty, and staff may use the drop box to submit Financial Aid Office or Business Office forms throughout the day or after office hours. Submissions will be processed the first business day after being dropped off.
