Fire Marshal inspection update
State Fire Marshal inspection update
|
The State Fire Marshal’s office has completed its inspection of the college, and in response to a noted deficiency in the inspection report, Operations & Maintenance staff will remove door wedges today from fire doors across campus. Many of these doors were first propped open to decrease touch points during the height of the pandemic but have remained propped open for convenience and/or increased air flow. To ensure these doors operate as they should in case of a fire, these doors must remain closed moving forward.
In some areas, closing these doors may create access issues. If that happens, O&M staff will work with individual areas to rectify the issue. In addition to removing the wedges, O&M is in the process of developing a new process for routinely inspecting fire doors for proper operation. If these doors are found to be propped open again, they wedges will be removed.
