Vote early on campus Oct. 25
|
An absentee satellite voting station will be opened in Saemann Student Center for the upcoming midterm elections from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25. All eligible voters are encouraged to take advantage of this convenient early voting opportunity. If you are not registered to vote in Iowa, you can do so at the satellite station.
You'll need a Voter Verification Number to submit your in-person absentee ballot. For in-state students with a valid Iowa driver's license, this will be your Iowa driver's license number. If you are an out-of-state student or a student without a valid Iowa driver's license, you will need to request an Iowa Voter ID card from the Bremer County Auditor's office; email swolf@co.bremer.ia.us to make this request as soon as possible. The Iowa Voter ID card will have a PIN which will function as your Voter Verification Number.

State senate candidate to visit campus Oct. 20
|
|
Wartburg Democrats is sponsoring a local candidate panel in the McCoy Rooms starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20. Jenn Wolff, candidate for Iowa Senate District 29 and a Wartburg College graduate, will speak about running for office, improving student turnout, and taking on the challenges Iowans currently face. Wolff will be on the ballot in Waverly's elections, so this is a great opportunity to speak personally with your potential future representative in the Iowa Legislature and voice your own priorities.

Kelley to speak on Equal Rights Amendment
|
Join Waverly AAUW at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in Science Center 134 to learn more about the Equal Rights Amendment. Speaker Doris Kelley, chair of Iowa's 19th Amendment Centennial Committee, will talk about the history of the ERA, its current ratification status, and what can be done to move this important amendment forward. German Institute seeks funding pitches
|
The Executive Committee of the German Institute is pleased to announce a call for applications to support activities or endeavors related to the German language or Germany. In the past, the institute has funded enrichments to May Term trips to Germany, the German film festival, learning materials for the faculty/staff heritage tour, and subsidized student travel to Germany for study abroad.
For 2022-23, a total of $2,000 is still available from external sources. Because these funds are limited, an application is required and funding will be awarded on a competitive basis. Applications for the full amount of available funds will most likely not be supported in full at this time. Applications are due Nov. 7. Awards will be announced no later than Nov. 21. Wartburg Dems plan Sip and Paint event
|
|
Wartburg Democrats will hold a Sip and Paint event open to all students from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in WBC 215. This is an opportunity to destress, register to vote in the midterm elections, and paint campaign signs for local candidates. Members of Bremer County Democrats and RAE (Raising Awareness for Equity) will be in attendance; painting supplies and refreshments will be provided for free.

Candlelight Dinners available for student organizations

Wartburg Dining Services extends an invitation to Student Senate-recognized organizations to host traditional Candlelight Dinners. Candlelight Dinners are an excellent way to promote your organization, interact with faculty and staff, and have a fine dining experience. Candlelight Dinners will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Castle Room of the Student Center on Nov. 16, Jan. 25, Feb. 8, and March 22. Email Chris Fosselman for more information.

Scholarships available for fellowship, U.K. studies
|
Looking for summer plans? Spend it studying in the U.K, supported by the Fulbright Summer Institute. The program is for academically engaged U.S. undergrads with little or no international experience.
If you’re a soon-to-be graduate and a U.S. citizen with experience and commitment to social change and youth service, consider the two-year paid FAO Schwarz Fellowship.

Annual safety report released
|
The 2021-22 Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report has been released. This required report contains crime statistics from 2019 through 2021 and addresses the college’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, such as responding to emergency situations and reporting sexual misconduct. Additionally, the report contains information related to fire safety. You can request a paper copy in the Campus Security Office in Saemann Student Center. |

Weekday Chapel services are from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Wartburg Chapel. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Mondays feature faculty and staff faith stories and blessings, Wednesdays include Holy Communion to which all are welcome, and Fridays have Senior Chapels.

Annual Medicare notice now available
|
The Medicare Modernization Act requires Wartburg to notify Medicare-eligible policyholders whether their prescription drug coverage is expected to pay as much as the standard Medicare prescription drug coverage does on average. Wartburg’s creditable coverage notice is available here. |

Apply for language study experiences
|
U.S. students can apply now to study one of 14 critical languages (not French, German, or Spanish) with the summer 2023 CLS Program, a fully funded, overseas, intensive language and cultural immersion experience. Application deadline is Nov. 15.
Additionally, CLS Spark is an online summer 2023 language intensive program for U.S. students to learn beginning Arabic, Chinese, or Russian, sponsored and fully funded by the U.S. State Department. Applications are due by Nov. 15.
