ETK seeks volunteers for Tai Verdes show
Entertainment ToKnight has booked Tai Verdes for its Large Event on Saturday, Oct. 8. Opening act Running Lights will perform at 8 p.m., followed by Verdes at 9 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help staff the event beginning at 6:30 p.m. until the event is over. Sign up before Sept. 21 to receive a T-shirt, an access pass, and an incredible night. Email etk@wartburg.edu with questions.
Auditions set for Kastle Kapers
Kastle Kapers auditions will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, and Tuesday, Sept. 20, in Neumann Auditorium. Kastle Kapers is an event to show off all talents during Homecoming & Family Weekend. The performance will be at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, in Neumann Auditorium. Email simone.bardawil@wartburg.edu with any questions.
Donate gloves to those in need
The college will collect donations for a glove drive in connection with the inauguration of President Neiduski, a certified hand therapist. The drive will begin Saturday at the football game against Luther and continue through Homecoming & Family Weekend. All types of gloves will be accepted — winter, sports, safety, etc. — and they will be donated to community members in need. Cash donations are also being accepted.
Latin Festival set Sept. 16
Come join S.A.L.S.A and ETK for the inaugural Latin Festival from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, on the Campus Mall. There will be Latin music, dancing, lawn games, food trucks, and much more! Everyone is welcome.
Spirit of Ubuntu Award nominations sought
President Rebecca Neiduski and her leadership team are now accepting nominations for the first Spirit of Ubuntu Awards, which will be given during the Presidential Forum at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 27. The peer-nominated awards will lift up one faculty and one staff member who are leaders in building an inclusive community on campus and exemplify the spirit of ubuntu — I am because we are. Nominations for the Sept. 27 awards are due Sept. 23. Additional awards will be given during future Presidential Forums, so please continue to nominate those you see living out the spirit of ubuntu.
Community reading of 1619 Project planned

Join a communitywide study group as it engages in conversations around issues raised in the New York Times’ 1619 Project. Readings, poetry, podcasts, and discussions will offer a profoundly revealing vision of the American past and present, contextualizing the systems of race and class. The group will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays on the Wartburg College campus from Sept. 20 through Nov. 1. There will be no meeting Oct. 11. There is no cost to participate, but registration is required by Sept. 17. All materials are available online.

This community read is sponsored by Waverly AAUW, Wartburg's Multicultural Student Services, the city of Waverly's Human Equity and Diversity Commission, and EMBRACE: Celebrating Diversity in the Cedar Valley.

Input sought on community stretch time
The W is planning to offer a light stretching session twice a week via Zoom. This would be a very light stretch and would not require any change of clothing, special equipment, or a baseline fitness level. Please fill out this survey to indicate your interest in participating and choose which times works best for you. For more information, email clay.cook@wartburg.edu.
Faculty-in-residence offers office hours with poodle
Dr. Rachel Clark, associate professor of English and faculty-in-residence, will offer Jellybean Office Hours twice a week this term. Students are welcome to spend time with Jellybean, Clark’s standard poodle puppy, and can also receive help and advice from Clark. Times and locations will vary throughout the term and will be posted on GroupMe.
Conference changes start time for volleyball games

The American Rivers Conference has changed the start time for varsity volleyball games for 2022. All varsity games will begin at 6 p.m. with junior-varsity games to follow. We love our Wartburg fans in the stands, so eat a quick supper and head to Levick Arena to cheer on your Knights! Home games in September:

Sept. 14 vs. Buena Vista (6 p.m.)
Sept. 21 vs. Dubuque (6 p.m.)
Sept. 23-24: Wartburg Invite
Sept. 27 vs. Grinnell (7 p.m., varsity only)
New exhibit on display in Wartburg gallery
"Sound as a Map" by Mille Guldbeck will be on display Sept. 5 through Oct. 20 in the Waldemar A. Schmidt Art Gallery. Guldbeck’s work is inspired by her personal experiences of landscape and are created from her own sensory observations and memory. She aims to depict alternate realities informed by (mis)observation, exploring how color, shape, light, and placement affect perception. A closing reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, with an artist's talk at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Waverly Health Center seeks volunteers
Fall applications to volunteer at the Waverly Health Center are being accepted in the Student Success Center. Please stop at the front desk to sign up on the clipboard and receive your orientation packet from Jo Dorrance. The deadline is Sept. 23, and space is limited to 15 students who are second-years or beyond. If you are already part of the WHC Volunteer Program, you do not need to apply again.
Cross country meet schedule set

Fall meets are now set for the Wartburg cross country team. Don't miss your chance to support the Knights at home during the Dan Huston Invite on Saturday, Oct. 1!

SPIRITUAL LIFE & CAMPUS MINISTRY

Weekday Chapel services
Weekday Chapel services are from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in Wartburg Chapel. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Mondays feature faculty and staff faith stories and blessings, Wednesdays include Holy Communion to which all are welcome, and Fridays have Senior Chapels.

Upcoming speakers:
Monday, Sept. 12: LeAnn Faidley
Wednesday, Sept. 14: Rebecca Baird
Friday, Sept. 16: Micah Decker, Senior Chapel

Each month will have a prayer focus. In September, please join us in praying for all students, faculty, and staff in these areas: education, music education, the Academic Resource Center, the Student Success Center, the dean of students, Residential Life, RAs and orientation staff, Counseling Services, and all first-year students.
Sanctuary on Wednesdays

Sanctuary is a casual service that takes place Wednesday nights. All are welcome to relax and center themselves around God’s word in the midst of their busy weeks. In September, service begins at 9 p.m. outside the Chapel tower (rain site: Chapel Commons, lower level), with snacks served beforehand at 8:45.
