Celebrate Lunar New Year on Wednesday

The Asian Student Association is hosting a special event for Lunar New Year, widely celebrated across East and South East Asia around this time every year, on Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Cardinal Commons. The following activities will be offered:

Lantern decorating: colored pens, markers and stickers will be provided, and you get to take the lantern back with you when you finish decorating it! |

Special message delivery: write a note to someone on campus, slip it inside a red packet called hongbao (a must-have for Lunar New Year!) and we will deliver it for you. |

Chinese dumpling sale: for those who pre-ordered dumplings last week, come and pick them up during the event! Alternate pick-up on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 4 to 5 p.m. |

ITS Multi Factor Authentication update
|
ITS will start to fully enforce Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) the first week of March. For those not yet activated, the launch phase is broken into three sections and will be activated at noon for each group on the days listed below.

Human Resources debuts new webpage

Human Resources worked with Marketing & Communication to develop a more attractive front page for their website at www.wartburg.edu/hr. With the HR website being the first experience for many prospective employees of the college, this change was considered necessary. All current employees should use the “Employee Information” dropdown menu options on this new page. Wednesday, Feb. 24: Watch the film “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” McCaskey Lyceum, 5:30-8 p.m. Directed by George C. Wolfe, the movie takes place in the summer of 1920 Chicago where Ma Rainey and her band take part in a recording session. The film effectively and efficiently investigates America's troubled history with racism and inequality. Maximum of 35 people, so RSVP at this link. |

Learn about COVID vaccine at Learn Over Lunch
|
As a member of the Waverly Chamber of Commerce, the college invites faculty and staff to the Chamber’s “Learn Over Lunch” program to learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine. Paula Giese, CEO of Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, will present “COVID-19 Vaccine: Answers to Your Questions” at noon Thursday, Feb. 25, in a virtual format. Email the Chamber to register for this free member benefit event. Participants will be allowed time to ask questions.

Dance Marathon's big event has a new date — March 28! The day will be broken down into three shifts to allow for a more COVID-friendly event.

iClub Culture Show looking for performances
|
International Club will be hosting its annual Culture Week this year April 6-10, and the group is accepting applications for performances at the Culture Show on April 10 in Neumann Auditorium. Performances can be any demonstration of culture, dances, music, etc. Applications will be accepted until Sunday, Feb. 28, at this link.

All are welcome at Weekday Chapel services from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Wartburg Chapel. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester. Chapel services are streamed live with Knight Vision, so you can watch from anywhere.

May/August 2021 pending grads: If you intend to extend your graduation date and enroll in the 2021-22 academic year, but have not yet submitted a Tuition-Free Fifth Year Request form, you need to contact sheree.covert@wartburg.edu to initiate the process. This process must be completed so you have access to register online in March with the 3Y/4Y students. |

Fall 2021 and May/August 2022 pending grads: After your registration in March as a 3Y/4Y student, more information will be sent via email so that you can officially submit your request for the tuition-free fifth year. |

Guidelines for upcoming online registration & housing lotteries
|
Student are reminded Winter Term balances were due by 2/10/21 and May Term balances are due by 3/10/21. Student balances must be at $5,000 or below to participate in online registration and the housing lottery for the 2021-22 academic year. Online registration and housing lotteries will begin in March. Monthly payment plan participants, if you are signed up for our online payment plan and your payments are current, you will be cleared to participate in time for your registration week!

‘God, Art, and Anti-Colonialism’ webinar March 3
|
The Inter-Religious Coordinating Committee for the Network of ELCA Colleges and Universities invites faculty, administrators and students to participate in a webinar with Mona Haydar on Wednesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. Haydar, a Syrian-American Muslim rapper, chaplain, poet, and theologian, will illumine the intersection of racial equity and interfaith understanding through her webinar, “God, Art and Anti-Colonialism.” The webinar is hosted by Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. Participants must register, but the webinar is free.

Dr. Caryn D. Riswold, professor of religion and the Mike and Marge McCoy Family Distinguished Chair in Lutheran Heritage and Mission, has co-written a chapter titled "Confronting Xenoglossophobia" in the new book Interreligious Studies: Dispatches from an Emerging Field, edited by Hans Gustafson and published by Baylor University Press. She co-authored the chapter with Guenevere Black Ford, a former student from Illinois College.

Have you recently tested positive for COVID-19?

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 since returning to the office from the break or working at home, please send a copy of your test results to covidresponse@wartburg.edu. By having this information on file with the college’s contact tracing team, you will not be required to quarantine should you be exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus within 90 days of your test.
