Learn mindfulness meditation for stress management
|
Dr. Cynthia Bane, professor of psychology, will lead a four-session course on mindfulness meditation. The course, Koru Mindfulness, was developed especially for emerging adults. Sessions will take place Tuesdays from 11:20 a.m.-12:35 p.m. in the Chapel Commons beginning Jan. 28. There is a one-time fee of $3.99 for the Koru app. Register at this link. 'Dark Money' film screening in Lyceum

All are welcome to a free screening of "Dark Money" at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, in McCaskey Lyceum. The Sundance award-winning documentary examines one of the greatest present threats to American democracy: the influence of untraceable corporate money on our elections and elected officials. CrawDaddy Outdoors and The W are hosting the second annual Paddle Fest at The W’s pool on Saturday, Jan. 25. Paddle Fest will offer presentations, education, and vendor booths for beginners, seasoned paddlers and river activists. Registration starts at 7 a.m., with sessions from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. See the full schedule and register online at this link.

Sign-up for the Candlelight Dinner hosted by Wartburg Student Music Therapy Association (WSMTA) will be Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 22 and 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Mensa. WSMTA will discuss its organization while students, faculty, and staff mingle over dinner on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the Heritage Ballroom in Saemann Student Center. The cost for students with a Board Plan is one swipe from their meal plan plus $3. This may be paid with Points or cash at the time of sign up. Off-board students may also attend, and their cost will be $15 at the time of sign up. The main course will be a steak and shrimp combo. Special dietary considerations will be taken into account.

Join the new German/English reading group
|
A bilingual German/English reading group for faculty, staff, and students is being formed for the winter semester. The group will read together a recent work of German-language literature, either in the original or in English translation. Meetings will be in February and March. 10-week wellness challenge
|
Do you need to kickstart your wellness in 2020? Beginning Jan. 19, The W is offering a 10-week wellness challenge for just $10. All activities can be completed on your own and then recorded (using the honor system) on your personal weekly log at The W. All participants will receive a shirt at the end of the challenge, and those who successfully complete five of seven days each week will receive an additional prize at the end. Register at The W before Jan. 19 to get in on the fun! Campus groups are encouraged to participate together. Weekly challenges are:
• Jan. 19-25 - 60 minutes of exercise daily
• Jan. 26-Feb. 1 - Drink 64 oz. of water daily
• Feb. 2-8 - Limit personal use screen time to less than two hours daily
• Feb. 9-15 - No sugary drinks
• Feb. 16-22 - Consume five servings or fruits or vegetables each day
• Feb. 23-29 - 60 minutes of exercise per day and less than two hours of personal screen time daily
• March 1-7 - Drink 64 oz of water daily and eliminate sugary drinks
• March 8-14 - 60 minutes of exercise per day and consumer five servings or fruits or vegetables daily
• March 15-21 - Take 10,000 steps per day
• March 22-28 - Put it all together (60 minutes exercise, limit screen time, drink water, no sugary beverages, eat your fruits and veggies!)

Robotics event seeks volunteers

The Waverly-Shell Rock Robotics teams are hosting a FIRST Tech Challenge Super Qualifier Meet on Saturday, Feb. 1. Wartburg College has been a sponsor of the teams since their inception in 2017. The teams are looking for volunteers to serve as officials, judges, inspectors, etc., at the Feb. 1 meet. No prior experience with FTC is required for most volunteer,s and there are volunteer positions in both technical and non-technical areas. Chapel services this week
|
All are welcome at Weekday Chapel services from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Wartburg Chapel. Chapel time is a brief opportunity to gather with students, staff, and faculty to reflect on God and faith. The Lord's Supper is celebrated at the end of the service on Mondays and Fridays. Interfaith chapels will be held the last Wednesday of each month during the semester. Sunday worship is celebrated at least once a month, starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel.
